I may come to regret this, but I decided to start an AAR on CK, in addition to my Vicky one. It likely will be updated infrequently until May, however.

This is CK 1.05, no modifications whatsoever.

Dirk stepped through the breach in the pagan fortress’s walls. The mangled bodies of men lay on the ground, frozen in their battle rage. He stepped over a particularly bloody looking corpse on the ground. A pagan. The damned savages had refused to surrender. He stepped over another body. Next to the body lay a pike, abandoned on the ground. This one was a Catholic. The coat-of-arms on his breast was split by what looked like a savage’s battleaxe. He stopped, and picked up the pike, placing it between the dead soldier’s hands. “The Lord shelter you, my liegeman.” The whisper barely left his lips, completely incomprehensible from six inches.

“My Lord? Are you alright?” The head of his bodyguard was tall and wide, built for the forge as much as any battlefield.

Dirk turned his head to Willem Roon. “Yes, Willem. Where is Father Diest?”

“He said he’d meet us there, my Lord. I trust Father Diest. He won’t let any of these savages kill him.”

Willem was quite a crusader, born to destroy the unbelievers. Dirk would have to do something to temper the zeal of his bodyguards. “Ready?” Upon seeing the nodding heads, he turned, and strode deeper into the fort.

His men had been most effective. All resistance had been demolished by the time he reached the pagan temple. A suitable place to mark the destruction of this tribe. The eighty-two prisoners taken in the assault were brought forward, heads bowed, awaiting the judgment of Dirk van Holland. Many were crying, expecting the axe.

There he was. Father Diest had arrived, now as well. Diest strode up to Roger, and inclined his head slightly.

“Father. Are you ready?”

“Yes, my son.”

“Very well, after I am finished with the prisoners.” He turned towards the savages.

“For ages have this people been lost to the Lord. For ages has this land worshipped false gods, graven images, and idols. Yet, I tell you people that it is not too late for repentance. Christ is merciful, as am I. I realize that your chieftains and pagan priests incited you to conflict with our Christian army. I declare you all free to go.” The shocked surprise on their faces was evident. Truly these people had never seen mercy. They stumbled to their feet, running off to their families and homes.

He nodded to Willem, who stood on the roof of the temple with a banner in one hand, and an axe in the other. The axe smashed into the sculpture of a wolf on top of the temple, shattering the pagan stonework. Willem then planted the banner in the rubble of the wolf. He then bowed in Dirk’s direction.

Dirk, in turn took a knee before the priest. Diest pulled a crown from his cloak. Placing it on Dirk’s head, he turned to the army and the onlookers. “In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.” The soldiers bowed heads.

“Amen.” The guttural whisper came back in a wave.

He turned to Dirk. “Dirk van Holland by virtue of bringing those who do not know the Lord into the body of believers, I am authorized by the Holy Father to do the following. I crown you Duke of Finland in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. You are a shepherd of the Lord’s flock. Rule for the Glory of God.”

Well we start right in the thick of things don't we. Excellent.

The crazy disease of starting more than one work is infectious, it appears. Thankfully, the work remains at the high standard for which you have already shown. Nice start. But don't get too far away from your Vickie AAR. Good luck with this. I'll be reading.

Yes we do. :)

I just got CK, and this is my first game, so we will see how it goes. Thanks for stopping in, stnylan and coz1. Feel free to let me know about any common pitfalls for new CK players, as otherwise I'll likely discover them on my own. :)

Update coming soon.

I wish you good luck with your CK-AAR.

It looks to me as if you already know how not to let your king or duke steal your sieges. :)

I will be following this to see what has happened to them.

Elisabeth strode into the Great Hall. Her eyes darted around the room, to quickly search for anyone hiding behind chairs or underneath tables. Not a thing moved. Satisfied that the room was truly empty, she sighed. How could the boy be so unruly? Father Veers had always preached that children should be submissive to their elders. What was wrong with the boy? Was he a born sinner?

Adela saw greatness in him, but then, Adela saw greatness in everyone. Her sister was far too blatant in her schemes, however she was better than any other member of the court at it. Oh, she thought she was good, but really, only Dirk did not see right through her heavy-handed attempts.

She marched onward, towards the kitchen. The lanterns along the side of the room cast odd-looking shadows around the room. These shadows formed those of people in her eyes. She focused on each one, and it would return to being a chair shadow. Bah, this was useless; no one was here. She continued towards the kitchen.

The boy did have his moments. He would excel at martial and diplomatic skills, but would fail if subterfuge were required. The boy also had a stubborn streak. All his tutors professed frustration at his refusal to accept their teachings without verifying them himself. The incident just last year with her own son and the young count was proof enough in her mind.

Hearing movement behind her, Elisabeth turned towards the sound. A chair sat innocently next to the table. Elisabeth eyed it suspiciously. She walked towards it, and bent over, peering under the table. No one. Interesting. Someone had to have been…

A light tap on her right shoulder made Elisabeth leap straight up. Her head thumped into the underside of the table. She still managed to get her head up after another try, and looked around. Who had tapped her shoulder? Someone tugged at her arm insistently. She turned her head irritably. There was no one there. She put a hand to the back of her head. That really hurt. Withdrawing her hand, she was relieved to see no trace of blood. She would feel better in the morning.

By chance, she looked down. Young Dirk stood looking at her worriedly.

“Lady Elisabeth? Are you all right? I didn’t mean…”

“Dirk van Holland, you will go to your room right now. Why did you question Lady Jacoba’s directive? Don’t even try to lie, you little worm.” Angrily, she grabbed his ear, and proceeded to drag him out the main entrance to the Great Hall. Dirk’s yelps were to no avail, as Elisabeth von Diest hauled the young count off to his room.

He may be a count, but he's up after his bedtime! Much chortling at the end of a somewhat serious post.

Seems the young count is a born spymaster, if just a tad unruly for his age.

stnylan: Glad you enjoyed that one.

coz1: A spymaster? Perhaps not that much, but he'll do alright. Unruly? Yes. :)

Sorry for the massive delay on updates, but real life has taken its toll. I'll try and get an update in this weekend. Thanks for reading thus far, all.

As and when. Real life can be an obnoxious pain in the arse.
