I'm sure this will baffle you all but it can't hurt to ask. I was going to search to see if this problem had ever occured before but the search option isn't working right now.

In Multiplayer in-game and at the Game Selection (before the game). I can only see the hosts chat. Yes, I have made sure. I can only see the hosts chat. I always thought something was funny...Sometimes it seemed like the host was talking to himself. or that no one else was talking except me and him...but eventually...with some help..I figured it out.

I'm decent with technology but this is just plain...werid. Is it router problem? I have some therories but i'm not sure how I can fix it. Someone has to have had this problem before, It would be amazing if I am the only one this happens too.

Just to note, Overlord has had many people look at the problem, but none of us can figure it out, so someone toss us a bone. :D

I really thinks it's a firewall issue. My guess is that chat messages don't go through the host, and instead are recieved on specific ports. Because you don't have them open, you just won't recieve them. It fits because you have to contact the host to join a game, and would recieve messages from him because you're already in contact with him.

Just my theory, though.

I hope it works, it's alot more fun when you can hear what everyone says. ;)

FIXED

FIXED! Thanks to cfeedback my problems should be fixed. Not sure if this we also help make my games not crash as much as well. Bascially follow the directions in the "ROUTERS HOW TO MAKE THEM WORK" thread. It bascially seem to be with the ports. I opened up 2300 to 2400 and 47624 to 47624 enabled all and such. DO the same in Forwarding. Might be able to give more precise directions if someone asks.

I'm amazed you could play without all the proper ports forwarded in the first place.

I suspect there still is not a solution for the problem of a host being on a network and those outside the host network being unable to see chat of other players that are INSIDE the host's network. (otherwise HoI works fine in this configuration) Mixing internal and external networking doesn't seem to allow all chat to reach each person.

one more thing we did was upgrade his router's firmware...it was a rather old version. I STRONGLY suggest anyone with a linksys router make sure your firmware is up-to-date. Some of the older versions are notoriously flaky.
