I cannot start scenarios ......

Hello,everone.I have serious problem about Victoria.

First,I cannot start scenario 1861,1881,1914 but Grand Campaign.
I'm receive message like this after loading is stop ; "excel file Rhone_Alpes.csv is not found.Do you continue?" And I must choose between
"abort","retry" or "ignore" and the game is crushing.

Add on,When I choose abort,I have another message like this ; "Micrsoft C++
Runtime error ; Program file c:\games\strategy first\victoria\victoria.exe is abnormal termination."

I was tried to set to depth 16bit,terminate another Programs(Anti-Virus....),set of Regional Setting to US,and testing Dxdiag(all is Ok.),
set up in other PC. But It is not useful.And really I cannot see and find "France_Rhone_Alpes.csv" at 1861,1881,1914 folder except GC folder.

Please help me.Have I defective CD or Is my cd-rom too old(3 yr.) or the other factor?

(Ah,1.01 patch can appliable,but when 1.02 patch is installing,and at 51% point,install is stop due to same reason.)

Reinstall, then just install the 1.02 patch from the Strategy First web site.

Did you do a search to see if the file exists on your computer?

Yes,it is exist on GC folder only.So only GC scenario is fine and not crushing.
But at any other scenario folders such as 1861,1881,1914,it is not exist.So
these scenarios have a problem.

So,I tried to copy the file from GC folder to any other scenario folders.But it was not useful

Yuni - do you have a non english version of windows. Aetius had a problem with this file in beta but I thought it was fixed. Something to do with the ^ not being recognised by windows.

So,Do I need english windows?(I'm using WindowsXP Korean)
And,Is it possible to problem of CD-Rom?I'm using 3years old of samsung.

The problem is still there in beta. The file is France_rhone_alpes.csv Aetius has Japanese Windows XP but cannot load any other scenario apart from grand campaign. The suspicion is that the asian versions of windows cannot cope with the french circumflex character in the game file.

As a possible fix I would do a global search on France_rhone_alpes.csv and change the name to something without a circumflex. You will need to change the France.inc files and the name of the file itself and possible other entries in the scenario files. You may also have to manually search the files if the search engine gets confused by the circumflex too.

One other alternative is that Microsoft do release optional packs to support non-native languages in windows. In windows update I know I can download a japanese character support pack. I assume that the Korean version can load a european or french pack as well. You could try installing this but I don't know if it will help.

EDIT - all game files are read only so make sure you change it to read / write access before editing.

English windows with asian support doesn't work either. You need to rename the files and places where they are referred to in the France file.

The problem is that asian character sets are based the US 7-bit character set. This means that any non-US latin based alphabet will cause problems if used in the filenames.

And then,at last,my scenario is not crushing at all.

Unfortunately,1.02 patch is still not appling.If anyone knows exact way to solving this please advise to me . Thank you for all. ^^

Glad atleast you have 1.01 up and running.
As for 1.02 you would not be able to change the file name inside the exe of the patch, I guess you could pettition Derek to ask Johan to change the file name in the next patch.

I'll ask but I don't know if its possible. Question - if the patch can't find the file then could Paradox send a copy of the file to Yuni to allow the patch to overwrite it? After all the patch program appears to be able to "see" the ^ even if Korean windows can't.

Actually if this works, shouldn't a complete uninstall, reinstall 1.00 and then update to 1.02 and do the same manual fix for the file names as you did for 1.01 work as well?

Ya I was a little confussed by the original install working but not the patch.
