When I first bought EU2 after months of waiting, I couldn't wait until I got home to play it. However, everytim I tried to install it, I encounter an error message saying: "I/O error while installing a file." It still happened after I bought another copy of the game. Is it the way my cd-rom drive is set up or what? My patience is thin on account of this, so will anyone please help me ASAP!!!

try disabling anything connected to the machine before installing : scanners, printers, modem, digital cam etc and then try.
What OS are you using etc ?

I'm currently using Windows ME.

see the "Running problems" thread, there could be a few solutions useful to you.

It looks like your CD-ROM can't read the disk...

Is there any way then I could get my cd-rom to read the cd. The post you referred me to was mostly for people who had already installed the game.

Try Number 12 in that list - it could be the copy protection.

I looked at number 12, and it didn't say anything about copy protection. I'm tired of the red tape, so could anyone who sucessfully installed EU2 on 64 MB RAM please level with me on how to install the game.

Try #11 and also disable "Sync data transfer" and "Disconnect".

The steps in the thread are for people who can't get the game to run and for people who have trouble installing it.

I simply can't install this game, after trying all of Uglyduck suggestions. So somebody tell me in plain English how to adjust my cd-rom, so that I can finally install the game. My laptop is 150 mhz, runs on Window ME, has 64 mb ram, and at least 1gb of free hard drive space. My cd-rom was good enough for EU1, so I know full well its good enough for EU2. I know full well that there's others like me, whom for some reason, can't simply install the game. If the genius at Strategy First are reading this, then they best better tell me how to install the game, because I waited too long for EU2, and paid my honest money for it. Now if that copy protection program of theirs is the reason for my current anger, at the very least they can do it to admit it, and fix ASAP, before they cause the wonderful creators of this game to lose loyal customers like myself.

(For the Moderators: sorry about this rant in advance, but I just had to get something off my chest. If you just couldn't install the game to save your life, you'll feel the exact same way.)

did you try to disable the DMA setting of your CD-ROM driver, as suggested in the Sticky thread? Did you also disable "Sync Data transfer" as well as "Disconnect"? They are all at the same place, just uncheck the boxes. Also, disable your firewall if you have one, as well as just about any other program running in memory.

You could e-mail SF or post on their board, maybe they have a solution. Their coordinates are in the thread "Support Option". Tell them everything you've done so far.

Your rant doesn't bother me, but it would be better on SF site than here, since they don't always come around here.

Try to disable your sound card, it has been known to work for some people.

UD and viper, Mike louis called me at SF support. we went through all the possibilities you suggested. from disabeling sound card, to joystick to renaming avi folder, to verifying HD space, ect ect.

he still can't install the game. not sure if this will help but his system cannot support 800x600 resolution.

ps: my assumption is you the same person that spoke to me on the phone.

cheers

If his system supports only 640x480, that would be the problem.

Mike, can you upgrade your video card? There are many good cards on the market right now, ATI, Hercules, etc, that won't cost you an arm. Alternatively, if there is another system on wich you can install the game (office, friend, family), try it to see if the game works with another configuration.

You can call off the APB, and the bloodhounds now, I finally installed the game. All it was a stubborn cd-rom that just needed a good ol'fashion beating to get it to work. Next up: installing the 1.01 patch, and creating a good custom scenario.

Glad it finally worked for you :)
