I dislike Steam!

I hate that HOI 4 will require Steam. I hate using Steam and I don't think it's fair that every game I buy regardless of where I buy it has to be registered to Steam to play it. I did this once and I'll never buy another Steam required game again. I'm from the old country when life was much more simple and I will NOT be going to HOI4 due to this stupid STEAM requirement!.

That said, I'm fine staying on my non Steam version of HOI 3 as clearly there is no better game on the market. True the AI is dumber than a box of nails and all the trade requests are ridiculously annoying but it is an excellent WWII Simulator.

I found a link that said, "why Steam is required for HOI4", but when I click on it, it says I don't have access privileges to this info. Then why tease me with the link in the forum? LOL!

Yeah. You have to download Paradox games through Steam, but after that you never have to open Valve's store again (unless you want the patches of course).

What don't you like about steam? Did you have a bad experience with them in the past?
 
i don't hate steam, but it does bug me. that said, some level of paranoia is never unhealthy, especially if your account has been previously hijacked like mine was. all the games on steam that i have have a backup outside of its folder. which explains why according to steam i've only played EU4 and CK2 for around 20 minutes instead of the actual hundreds of hours.

Look which part of he forum the thread is located at. Some game specific forums require you to register game key at the top of the page to access them.

The reason that that link will outline is that Steam automates installing of the latest patch, which caused a lot of unnecessary Tech Support traffic from users that were on an older patch.
 
Steam starts to offer modders to get money for their mods.
If steam werent gonna take some part of it, it might have been a good thing. So I am undecided if it s goona be a good thing still?

wow. i just took a look at the shadowscale set mod for skyrim on steam. ohhh boy this is going to end badly if you have to pay to get the mod instead of basically a donate button. #lawsuitsincoming

EDIT: April 23rd, 2015. on this day in history, modding just lost some of its purity. thanks steam.

Only if Bethesda didn't agree to this. And while it doesn't as much on their website I feel like it is very implied that Bethesda did.

You know, i used to be pissed off whenever i saw a thread like this, because i really like Steam. But seeing the way they started monetizing mods, i honestly fear for the future.
