There's an Astral planes event that sends you to an infernal obelisk. When I sent my scientist to investigate it, I tried to destroy the Obelisk, and she died. Normally that'd be the end of it. BUT!

She had redundant Organs.

So instead of being dead when she got back, she was very much alive, and I thought THAT was the end of it. But then the event continued and sent her back alive and immortal! So now I had two copies of her. When the event progressed again, she got a trait, but only ONE of her copies got that trait.

I had another funny moment in last game. Primitives advanced into Early Space age, launched rocket... And asteroid nuked their homeworld into Stone age. But then event about space program failure "decreased" their development into Atomic age. Definitely a bug, but wow, that was cool.

The rocket and all it's technology landed back on the planet doctor stone style and they recolonized it! :p
