Let me start by saying that I know that it's not EU2 or Victoria, it is my PC.
Issue: After selecting the scenario or save game, and doing the settings, when I press start, EU2 and Victoria CTD. This is before I see the loading scenario screen.
Details: I had a 700 MHz Dell for 3 years, and played EU2 continuously in this time without any CTDs, spare one or two in MP.
This is a brand new Dell XPS 3.0 GHz, 1GB RAM, ATI Radeo 9800 Pro. Every other game I've tried plays without a single problem or crash.
Further details: Whenever I start my computer (coming from work), I enter Victoria, select my scenario or save game, and press start. CTD. Same thing for EU2. After entering other games, spending time doing whatever... I'm not sure what the trigger is, I go back in one of these two Paradox games, and they run without a glitch, without one single CTD.
This has been happening for 5 days now. I would like to be able to start Victoria or EU2 without desperately trying to do things to make it start...
To the point: I need help. Any suggestions are welcome. I am not helpless with PCs, I know enough to have disabled all the Microsoft XP stuff that is not needed, etc. (The CTDs were occuring before the disabling of these things as well). The firewall has nothing to do with it, CTDs with it on as well.
Thanks.
