Hopefully you can see both are alive with that screenshot.
I started as the duke of Pereyaslavl/Kiev/Rostov, in 1080. I didn't notice the 2nd wife for about a month, until I was looking through my court. After noticing, my first question was, "am I getting a bonus to my state attributes from both wives?" Nope, just the Cuman woman, Anna, is giving me the spouse bonus. The only other advantage that I can see is lost since the Russian woman, Eirene, is past childbearing age.
Is this intended? How common was polygamy in different areas during this time period? If there's a major muslim patch would you expect, or hope, to see muslim rulers have up to four wives at a time? I can imagine no shortage for viable heirs, but tons of plotting and plenty of opportunities for events and intrigue.
Within a year of the game start, you can see the Cuman womans first son has already died from the plotting of my other wife and her son, the duke of Chernigov... Suits me fine in this game because I'm still locked in gavelkind. Unfortunately the plot to kill your wife only lets me choose to plot against the younger wife at this time.
Anyway, it was definitely an unexpected surprise for me this game, and I look forward to seeing what other people think and have to share.
