Chapter 15 "Those who dream"
  • Chapter 15
    Dem der drømmer.

The Danish Military was defeated and forced to retreat, unable to defend their own homeland, they fled to Norway. The morale is low and they fear that a German Invasion of Norway is imminent. There is not much time for talking, if dreams are to become true, the allies have to work hard.

7th of February 1940 18:00 Oslo Harbor Norway.

    W. Prior is making a speech for the danish soldiers that made it to Norway, the morale is low and the men are exhausted.

    W. Prior: "Alright men, we lost, Denmark is now under German Control. There is not much we can do now, to change that fact. We faced an overwhelming opponent that have invaded all its neighbours in a quick fashion, except Switzerland. I have just recived the news from Copenhagen, Prime minister Stauning have negotiated how the occupation will occur, Denmark is lost and our King is now hostile of the madmen in Berlin.

Our brothers in Norway might share our fate, but men we have a choice. We can fight for our brothers freedom from German tyranny, to make sure that the Norwegians will share the same fate as us. 200 years ago Denmark and Norway was one and the same, by rulership king. Today the Danes and Norwegians will stand united, not by the bloods of monarchs, but by Scandinavian Brotherhood and our common desire to protect those we hold dear.

I know many of you have family, friends and children in Denmark, now in the claws of not just some tyrannic German dictator. But a monster that is only obsessed by power and control. A dictator that want to assimilate everything into the "perfect" German and eradicate anything not deemed assimilable or is opposing these mad "ideals". Not even the Germans are German enough for Hitlers liking.

I will ask your all this question: "Do you want the Norwegians to share the fate of Denmark?"

The Soldiers: various responses of "No"

    W. Prior: Then let us get into action, the plan is simple. The Homeguard will guard the Ports in Southern Norway and the Infantry Will act as reserve and reinforce any port that is attack by the Germans.

The 8th of February: Iceland Declares independence. With the Occupation of Denmark, the Icelandic parliament have declared their own foreign policy, in order to protect Iceland from the terrors of the war. This event is seen as a great betrayal, by the Danish Military, as Iceland have a small military industry, the army hoped could supply what is left of the Danish Army. The Icelandic Goverment have announced, they will vote to decare neutrality or rejoin Denmark in the Fight against the Germans.

The 18th of February: Germany Declares war on Yugoslavia, Yugoslavia joins the allies in response.

The 28th of February: The Croatian part of Yugoslavia declares independence and have joined the Axis, no one knows if this uprising was funded by the axis or came by its own." But was is know, all Yugoslavian and British forces in Slovenia, is now encircled"
    upload_2020-2-15_7-46-24.png

With the Croatian uprising, a dire situation now seems hopeless.

The 8th of March 1940 The Second Vienna Award, have granted Hungary northern Transylvania. In responce, Hungary have joined the Axis.

The 9th of March 1940 The Garrision of Bornholm, somehow managed to escape and now continues the Fight under British Command, which on the same day, was returned to Danish Command.

The 9th of March 1940 A German invasion of Bergen Is underway, the Danish infantry is now responding and move in to oppose the German Invasion
    upload_2020-2-15_7-53-48.png

Most likely, the Invasion will be repelled by the combined arms of Denmark and Norway.

The 10th of March Finland surrenders to the Soviet Union, losing some territory, but otherwise keeps its independence.

The 11th of March The Germans are now launching a major invasion of Stavanger, the garrison will most likely not hold, if it does not receive reinforcements.
    upload_2020-2-15_7-57-13.png
Reinforcements are underway, so there is no way the Germans get a port.

The 16th of March 1940 Yugoslavia Capitulates.

The 19th of March 1940: The Battle of Stavanger is over, The Danish and Norwegian Forces where able to repel the invasion.
    upload_2020-2-15_8-12-45.png

Germany Suffered Significant losses and resulted in a Significant Danish-Norwegian Victory at the 1st battle of Stavanger.

The 21st of March 1940 Denmark, with British support have established military factories in Greenland, in order to supply the Danish army. Further Construction is underway

The 1st invasion of Bergen have also concluded, Many Germans died or where captured as POW (Prisoner of War)
    upload_2020-2-15_8-21-46.png

All battles fought in the 1st Battle of Bergen, Germany lost over 20.000 men, due to 2 German divisions, landed on a beach with no supply, they where not able to capture a port, so they where forced to surrender.

The 27th of March 1940. The Germans managed to secure the port of Stavanger, the local garrison was overwhelmed, after giving the Germans heavy resistance and forced to retreat, the Danish army have launched a counter offensive, in order to retake the port, before the Germans can organise a Defense and invade Norway.

    upload_2020-2-15_8-26-23.png

This could be the most important battle for Norway.
    upload_2020-2-15_8-27-53.png

The Danes are disorganised but the Germans does not have any sort of organisation. The Second battle of Stavanger have begun.

Due to The Resistance The Danish Garrison offered and the arrival of the Reserve forces, the Germans did not even have 30 minutes to organise a defence of the Harbour, once all divisions left the transport boats.
Danish Machine-gun fire, combined with Danish artillery barrage, made the Germans suffer heavy losses and they could not take cover, due to their extreme concentration of men, the transport boats where also sunk by a Danish Artillery bararge, making any resistance or attempt of retreat by the German army at Stavanger, pointless.

The 30th of March The Danish Counteroffensive in Stavanger was a major Success. The Germans where too disorganised to defend their position and surrendered to the Danish army. 6 German divisions was captured that day.
    upload_2020-2-15_8-30-29.png

The Largest Danish Victory so far the casualty rate almost 1 dane for 129,2 German. Most lost German soldiers are now prisoners of war, they are getting send over to Britain, in order to secure they will stay as prisoners, even if Norway fall in German Hands. The Danish army did well under the leadership Wilhelm Wain Prior.

Now with the End of March 1940, Denmark have been occupied for over a month, Yogoslavia have fallen and most of its territory is now controlled by a Croatian uprising and battles still being fought in Africa. Even as the war coninues and have awoken the people in Europe to the Nazis tyrrany, there are still People sleeping and dreaming.

The Axis-Ally war in April 1940

    Europe
    upload_2020-2-15_13-7-48.png

Germany currently Dominates Central and western Europe, only challenged in Eastern Europe, by the Soviet Union.

    upload_2020-2-15_13-9-13.png

Germany occupies all of Denmark, but did not manage to invade Norway, due to the combined forces of Denmark and Norway, in the Baltics Latvia have been "liberated" by the Soviet Union. Estonia og Lithuania might be next, annexed, when the whole continent is fighting against/or watching what Germany does, no one notices an eating bear.

    upload_2020-2-15_13-12-26.png

In The Balkans, Hungary have truly enjoyed great territorial expantion, at the cost of its neighbours. Bulgaria have taken Macedonia. From the ashes of Yugoslavia, the "Independent State of Croatia" have managed to take control of much of the former Yugoslavian territory. In Italy, Free France controls corsica and Sardinia, combined with the British control of Malta. The hold of the Mediterranean is contested by both the allies and the axis.

    Africa

    upload_2020-2-15_13-17-3.png

The Battle for North Africa, is in the allies favour. Almost all of Liberia have been taken from the Italians, the front is closing Tunesia, which could potentially give the Allies Complete control of Africa.

    upload_2020-2-15_13-19-8.png

The Italians Still have controls Ethiopia and Etheria and push a bit into Sudan, but with British control of the Suez, sending any form om supply is a challenge for the Italian Army in Eastern Africa. But they still divert British Forces

    Asia
    upload_2020-2-15_13-30-15.png

China and Japan is still fighting each other Japan is starting to come on top.

    The War in Europe
    upload_2020-2-15_13-36-4.png

The Allies have suffered more casualties, the axis have a larger army in the field and a larger industry. Where the allies source of power is spread all over the world, the Axis industry and power is concentrated in Europe. Making any attack on the European mainland a suicide mission for the allies.
The Axis-ally war is in the Axis favour, the only thing that contain them to Europe and limited presence in Africa, is the British navy. But British Intel suggest that Germany is building a massive navy, using the dockyard of occupied nations, in order to break British Naval Dominance. But that will take a long time. If there are no changes in the war, the Axis will win, due to access to a larger industry and a larger army. Even with India, the nation is far too rural to mobilise and field a large army that can rival that of Italy, let alone Germany.

If the Allies are to win the war, they will need direct support from the United States or the Soviet Union. In order to rival Axis industry and fielded army. The best course of Action for the allies for now, will be to secure full control of Northern Africa, hold Malta, Corsica, Sardinia and Gibraltar and Deny the Axis from any possible oil supply and hope that events will take place, so the Axis will not outnumber the allies in terms of industrial production and fielded men in the Army.

Chapter 16 "The Defense of Norway"
  • Chapter 16
    Norges værn

The 20th of April 1940 Romania Cedes Bessarabia to the Soviet Union, in order to avoid war, against the Soviet Union

The 17th of May 1940 Italy Launches a Naval Invasion of Southern Norway. The Danish Norwegian Forces, are trying to bait the Italians to land into Norway and deny then any ports, in order to Force the invading forces to surrender, as they will not be able to retreat into the Sea again. But unlike the 2nd battle of Stavanger, this time the manoeuvre is planned. So the Danish forces at the coast falls back, so the Italians can land into the trap.
    upload_2020-2-16_7-36-15.png

The Trap of letting the Enemy invade from the cost and letting them commit to the invasion and then deny them any port or ability to reorganise if they take a port, then launch a counter-attack became a really effektive strategy to inflict heavy losses to an opponent and forcing them to surrender. This also made the Danish high command pretty pessimistic of any hope of liberating Denmark from sea. As these kind of invasions could trap entire divisions in hostile territory with no chances of retreating.

The 21st of May 1940. The Traps seems to be an success, the Italians do not have enough firepower to take the ports and are now stuck in the Norwegian countryside, with no option of retreating, leaving the Italians with fever Division that can fight.
    upload_2020-2-16_7-38-41.png

The Italian invasion seems to end like the 2nd battle of Stavanger, a complete failure, with significant casualties to the invader.

The 24th of May 1940 The Italian Invasion is defeated and only a division is still resisting, but that will soon end. Now Germany is Launching a naval invasion upon the Norwegian capital of Oslo. 2 Danish divisions are underway to reinforce the garrison. They will arrive in 1 day and 10 hours, but will need time to reorganise.
    upload_2020-2-16_7-42-48.png

The Situation is still under control, neither Italy or Germany brings enoguh men or firepower to break through the Danish-Norwegian Defences.

The 26th of May 1940 The German invasion of Oslo was a Diversion. The main force of the attack, is underway in Kristiansand, The Danish division that was attacking the surrounded Italians are diverted in order to defend against the invasion, a division originally planned to assist Oslo have also been send under route to Kristiansand
    upload_2020-2-16_7-47-59.png

The Situation in Norway is looking Grim, due to the major invasion of Kristiansand. But danish and Norwegian reinforcements are under way

The 27th of May 1940 The Italian Pocket have finally been defeated
    upload_2020-2-16_7-50-9.png

Many Prisoners of War was taken that day, they are immediately send to Britain via Bergen, in order to avoid them being freed after a potential successful axis invasion of Norway.

The 29th of May 1940 The German Invasion of Oslo have been repelled successfully.
    upload_2020-2-16_7-53-32.png

So long as we can repel the invasion, the Axis will take significant casualties in any attempt to invade Norway.

The 30th of May 1940 The Military industry in Greenland have been expanded. The Major German invasion of Kristiansand have also been repelled
    upload_2020-2-16_7-56-58.png

A successful defence, due to the Danish garrison is able to hold out until danish and Norwegian reinforcements could arrive.

The 2nd Battle of Stavanger was not the end, of the axis attempt to invade Norway, all of May 1940, Norway faced invasion after invasion, but the Combined forces of Denmark and Norway managed to repel the Invasion and capture 20.000 Italian Soldiers and give heavy losses to both the Germans and the Italians. Norway is receiving more and more time to mobilise and build up their forces.
    upload_2020-2-16_8-4-44.png

So Norway still stand, like Britain, defying Hitlers will, together with the Danish army. No Norwegian shal live in Hitlers shadow, like the danish people do.

The State of the Danish Military June 1940
  • State of the Danish Military June 1940

    The Territory.

After the loss of the Danish heartland and the Icelandic declaration of independence. Denmark only controls Greenland and the Faeroe Island. Wich have a combined population of 46,8 thousand people. Making any recruitment of additional manpower difficult. There are some Danes that escapes to Norway via neutral Sweden and joins the Exiled danish army. But currently those numbers are insignificant.

The Danish government in exile, have with British support, set up military factories in Greenland, in order to supply the danish army and airforce with equipment (2 military factories)
    upload_2020-2-16_12-45-24.png

Danish Military manufacturing in June 1940.

Denmark does not control any raw resources, so military production in Greenland is limited.

    The Army

Denmark have no manpower in reserve, the Danish army consist of 9 divisions, consisting of 123 battalions.
    upload_2020-2-16_12-50-48.png

The majority of the divisions are at full strength but the 1. Jyske Division is severely under strength and not fit for combat.

Denmark have plenty of guns and other kinds of equipment, when the size of the danish army is taken into consideration, The only real challenge, is the lack of convoys and airplanes.
    upload_2020-2-16_12-58-58.png

Much of the military equipment of Denmark, got send to Norway, before the danish government capitulated.

    The Navy

After the evacuation to Norway, Denmark lost almost its entire navy, only 4 obsolete submarines remains and they are all trapped in the Baltic sea.
They are currently docked at Oslo Harbour.
    upload_2020-2-16_12-54-31.png

Not a navy that can Rival the German navy, using them would be sending its crew to the bottom of the ocean.

    The Airforce

Denmark only have 66 fighter planes, but the Germans do not have any airports close enough to Norway to contest the Danish airforce.
    upload_2020-2-16_12-56-27.png

It is not that much, but they can fly and fight.

    Conlusion
The Danish Military is in a rough shape the Navy have almost been completely destroyed and the airforce is tiny. The land forces are still ready for combat, but with no reserves, any losses of men will be significant, this manpower shortage will be a challenge, as long as the danish mainland is occupied.

Chapter 17 "Fish stranded on the Shore"
  • Chapter 17
    Strandede Fisk

The 4th of June 1940. Germany and Italy attacks Kristiansand with poor planning, the divisions are too disorganised to attack an entrenched position
    upload_2020-2-16_13-28-47.png

Why does Germany and Italy do this? We don't know, it's almost like some nutjob with no military competence is overruling the Axis Armies leadership.

The 5th of June 1940 The German invasion of Kristiansand is repelled. Losses
    Germany 285
    Denmark and Norway 59

The 7th of June 1940 Germany Launches minor naval invasions against Kristiansand and Oslo.
    upload_2020-2-16_13-33-28.png

The Germans are so obsessed with invading Norway, but it seems they never bring enough men or firepower in order to do the job.

The 8th of June 1940 Denmark request some convoys from the United Kingdom, in order to prepare for a potential liberation of Denmark. The United Kingdom Refused the Request, stating they could not spare the convoys for now.

The 10th of June 1940 The German attack on Oslo was repelled, the Germans suffered heavy casualties.
    upload_2020-2-16_13-37-31.png

Germany have lost many men in the campaign in Norway, but Germany have still plenty of Manpower left to fight with.

The 11th of June 1940 The Italian-German invasion of Kristiansand is now over, The axis suffered heavy casualties compared to the defenders.
    upload_2020-2-16_13-40-39.png

Again Heavy casualties to the Invaders, when does the Axis learns?

The 25th of June 1940 Minor naval invasions made by the Italians and Germans are becoming so common, that they are no longer significant. Sometimes they lose hundreds of men without inflicting casualties on either the Danes or Norwegians. The most significant now is an invasion of Oslo, where the German army lost about 2.600 men and only killing 27 Danish/Norwegian Soldiers.
    upload_2020-2-16_13-49-41.png

Unless the Germans make a large well planed invasion of Norway. Norway will stand free from Nazi occupation.

Chapter 18 "A shore Norwegian Shore can not be bought, only rented in blood"
  • Chapter 18

    - Letter from an unknown danish soldier.

    The 8th of July 1940
Due to the Common attacks on The Ports of Kristiansand and Oslo, The Danish forces have moved all divisions to the 3 Southern ports of Norway, in order to entrench a defensive position and inflict so many cassualties as possible, without risking the lives of either Danish or Norwegian Soldeirs..

The 14th of July 1940 A major Italian Naval invasion have begund, An unknown quantity of Italian divisions have landed on the shoreline Between Kristansand and Stavanger.
Intel from compat suggest that Italy have landed 4 Divisions on the shoreline, if they do not manage to secure a port. They will be running out of supply and be forced to surrender
    upload_2020-2-16_14-1-49.png

A Well planned attack by the Italian Part, but judging by the number of divisions they have landed and the entrencment of Danish-Norwegian forces, the attack is unlikely to succed.
The 23rd of July 1940 Germany and Itally now launch a Major naval invasion of Kristiansand, but with the Italians driven out of the Forrest west of the City, its will just be a slaugther of Germans attacking an entrenched and fortifyed position from the Sea, with no support form Land forces, the worst possible was to attack any formation.
    upload_2020-2-16_14-9-24.png

The Danish-Norwegian forces are well prepared for this attack on Kristainsand. So this battle is heavely in the defenders favour.
The 27th of July 1940 The Major Naval invasion of Kristiansand was repelled and the Axis suffered heavy cassualties, like all the other times.
    upload_2020-2-16_14-12-27.png

Another slaughter, this is such a common event, that the locals are not scared of the countless of invasion, though most civilians have been evacuated to the countryside.
The Norwegian Army have also launched an attack, on the encircled Italian divisions, in order to force them to surrender, after 13 days with no supplies, the Italians are starved and have really low morale, the fight is expected to be short, Denmark did not assist the Norwegian Army in the attack, due to the lack of Danish Manpower. The Italians surrendered few hours after the attack. (Do not know the exact casualties as the AI sadly have no combat log, of its own battles and i did not attack)
    upload_2020-2-16_14-17-13.png

Petter Ræder and his forces outnumber the exhausted Italians and the Norwegians are well rested, they even have prepared for transportation of POW to England, as they expected the Italians to surrender few hours after Norwegians attacked.
The 21st of August 1940 The Italian Army have launched another attack and landed an unknown number of Divisions southeast of Stavanger
    upload_2020-2-16_14-27-0.png

More Enemy Soldiers stuck in Norway, there is Norway there are going to give up.

    The 22nd of August 1940
The Italian Division that landed southeast of Stavanger, tried to attack the City, was to disorganised to fight, after a quick danish counter-attack. The Italians immediately surrendered. This is due to the fact, morale for German and Italian Soldiers send to Norway is low, due to the high casualty rate and they are really inclined to surrender due to the well treatment of POW by the Norwegian Government, compared to the treatment 2 mad dictators, that send them to die in a hopeless campaign.

    upload_2020-2-16_14-32-53.png

Mass surrendering of Axis Soldiers stranded in Norway was a quite common, in the Norwegian theatre of war. Due to how well defended the Norwegian ports where.

Chapter 19 "The fall of Greece"
  • Chapter 19
    Grækenlands fald

The 6th of October 1940 The Italian Army, have launched an Invasion of Oslo, they have landed 2 divisions west of Oslo and are attacking Oslo by sea, with 2 divisions. With Denmark and Norway having 3 entrenched divisions defending the City, the chances of a successful capture, is really low.
    upload_2020-2-16_15-18-1.png
These attacks are just too common, to not be the product of insanity. Many Norwegians and exiled Danes, wonder why they just keep doing this. Unlike the Danish defence of Denmark, they are not fighting to protect their home from a foreign aggressor. They are attacking a nation that what neutral and that they decided needed to be invaded in order to defeat the Allies.
The 12th of October 1940 The Italian invasion of Oslo was a failure and a few Italian Divisions was forced to surrender to the Norwegian Army.

The 15th of October 1940 Even the German puppet of Vichy France, want to try to invade Norway, they have launched an attack on Kristiansand, a futile attempt that will end in a few thousand dead Frenchmen.
    upload_2020-2-16_15-18-19.png
The Germans, the Italians and the French. All lead by foolish leaders that just send good men to die. The Norwegian Front is almost more Deadly for The Axis, than the Western front in the First world war. Back then , they at least back then, their leaders learned to stop attack enemy strongholds without a good plan.
The 17th of October 1940 Italy lay claim of most of Greece, many greeks fear that war will come to their land. Wich Itally did 15:00 that day.

The 22nd of October 1940 Italy and Bulgaria have made gains in Greece and encircled 3 Greek divisions in the City of Alexandroupolis. The Situation for Greece seems dire
    upload_2020-2-16_15-18-34.png

The Axis seems unstoppable when attacking their neighbors, when there is no sea Separating the nations.
The 13th of November 1940 The Italians have pushed the Greeks to Thessaly. Greece have suffered massive losses to the Axis Invaders.
    upload_2020-2-16_15-24-51.png

The Greeks, even with British support, are outnumbered imensly compared to the Axis. It is unlikely that Greece can defend themselves to the end of 1940.
The 11th of December 1940 The Italians have reached Athens, the Greeks have entrenched some forces there and is prepared to make a final stand against the Axis.
    upload_2020-2-16_15-32-18.png

Never Give up Greece, Defend what you hold dear, because maybe someday, the reign of the Axis will be over.
The 13th of December 1940 The British request control over the danish navy, in order to integrate what is left of the Danish navy, into the British naval command. Denmark refused the request, stating that the Danish Navy is trapped in the Baltic sea and could therefore, not be of any use to the British navy.

The 22nd of December 1940 The Greek capital Athens, have fallen after days of intense fighting, but the Greeks are not giving up yet.
    upload_2020-2-16_15-38-54.png

Even with the loss of their capital, the Greeks continue the fight.
The 31st of December 1940 Just before the new year, the Greek government capitiulated, after the fall of Patras. After the capitulation, 3 British Divisions are trapped in Greece surrounded by the Italian Army.

Since September 1939 Europe have been at war, Denmark have been fighting for over a year and have been occupied in 10 months.

But as Europe are controlled by the Axis, the war still rages. The last pockets of resistance are been eliminated in Greece. Only Norway and Britain in Europe stand defiant against the Axis with their european allies armies are still fighting the war in exile, in a hope that their homes may be free, one day.

In Africa Brutal Fighting between the Allies and the Axis in Northern Africa still continues in Libya, the Italians are losing hold of Eastern Africa and South west of Sahara, the Axis are losing territory in Senegal and Mauritania.

In North America. The United States of America have been granted Newfoundland in exchange for a significant amount of destroyers to the United Kingdom in return.

    upload_2020-2-18_17-1-1.png

With Newfoundland now controlled by the United States, the political map of North America will never be the same.
Now with the Japanese victory in the Sino-Japanese war, there is only an European War, the Allies Versus the Axis.
    upload_2020-2-18_17-4-39.png

With over a Million lost on both sides, the war have already taken its tool. The Axis Still have a larger combined industry and fielded army. But with the Allies still having Naval Supremacy, it's unlikely that major event will happen. A new "trench" war have begun, where armies are separated by the Oceans.

  • Chapter 20
    "Kampen" om Trondheim

The 18th of January 1941 Roumania Joins the Axis. Even though Germany have given the former Romanian teritorry of Northern Transylvania to Hungary and Dobrudja to Bulgaria. The Romanian government have also been forced to cede land to the Soviet Union. The fear of Communism, made the Axis the "lesser evil" for the Nationalistic regime in Roumania.

The 22nd of January 1941 Roumania Joins the Axis war effort against the Allies.

The 14th of February 1941 Germany have managed to Aquire Naval Supremacy along the Norwegian coast and have launched a Minor Naval invasion in Trondheim, the Norwegian garrison have the situation under control.

    upload_2020-2-18_17-17-22.png

The Situation is Under control, the Norwegian garrison are well prepared against such a minor invasion.

The 10th of May 1941 Denmark increased the amount of soldiers conscripted to the Danish Army from Greenland and the Faeroe Islands, the law is now service by requirement, in order to reinforce the Danish Army.

The 22nd of March 1941 Italian forces have succesfully landed in Trondheim. 3 Danish Divisions are imediatly send, in order to attempt to repel the Invasion
    upload_2020-2-18_17-26-4.png

This could be the end of Norway, if the treat is not Dealt with.
The 31st of March 1941 Due to lack of Axis reinforcesment and the quick response of the Danish army, Trondheim was liberated, before the Axis could deploy their army.
    upload_2020-2-18_17-28-3.png

If was not for the Italians deciding to secure the area surrounding Trondheim, they may have been able to repel any Danish or Norwegian Attack on the City. But the Italians decided to be too aggressive in their invasion.
The 4th of April 1941 Due to the danish army moving into Trondheim in order to secure the port of Trondheim, the port city of Kristiansand is left lightly defended, The invading forces are too overwhelming, so the garrison is in desperate need of reinforcements. But it will take 3 days, before 2 danish divisions can arrive. Then they will need some time to reorganise.
    upload_2020-2-18_17-36-55.png

Even when the Axis Attempts to invade Norway so far have been futile, they never have given up. Despite the low amount casualties suffered by the danish army, the amount of fighting is beginning to show.
The 10th of April 1941 The Attack on Kriansand has been repelled, the Danish reinforcement arrived just before the garrison was overwhelmed.
    upload_2020-2-18_17-41-8.png

The danish army suffered significant casualties in the Battle, due to the fact, it can not reinforce its army.
The 21st of April 1941 The danish Garrison of Bornholm have arrived in Bergen safely and is now been send to Narvik, to defend the port, as it's currently unguarded. Due to the Overstretched danish and Norwegian armies. Expected to arrive in 11-12 days, depending on the weather.

The 11th of May 1941 Danish Intel, suggest that Germany is planing an invasion of the Soviet Union. This will though first happen after 60 days.

    Chapter 21 "Backhand Blow"
  • Chapter 21

    Wir Norwegen von Zurück Erobren.

1st of May 1940 Führerbunker Berlin Germany.

German Cheif of Army Ludwig Beck, are called by Adolf Hitler to report the Situation of the Invasion of Norway. Hitler is Führerious over the fact that Norway have not been conquered by the German Army."

Beck: "Mein Führer, the Italians managed to capture Trondheim the 22nd of March, but they did not defend the port so the Danish army retook the city without any Italian resistance the 31st of March. We have now lost 226 thousand men, trying to invade Scandinavia. We have tried countless of times to invade Norway by sea, but the Danish army gave the Norwegians enough men, to defend Norway."

Hitler: "The German army have conquered Poland, the Benelux, Denmark and all of France and you tell me conquering Norway is beyond the capabilities of the mighty German army?"

Beck: "Norway is separated by kilometers of water. We do not have the abilities to secure a port and send enough forces to overwhelm the Norwegians, we simply does not have the means to a naval invasion, that can take out Norway. Any further invasions of Norway would be foolish. We should stop trying, 40% of all casualties for the German army, have been lost in the Scandinavian Campaign."

Hitler: "NORWAY IS NOT AN ISLAND YOU IDIOT! ITS PART OF THE EUROPEAN MAINLAND IT'S NOT BRITAIN!!!!!"

Beck: "But mein Führer, if the German army is to invade Norway by land, we have to move into the Soviet Union and then Finland, before we reach Norway"

Hitler stop talking for a half minute, but he says: "Russia... OF corse, if we can't invade Norway by sea, we will just take the land route. Where is the map?"

Hitler find a Map of Europe "And where is my pencil?" he finds is pencil and start drawing... arrows... Yellow arrows

Beck: "Mein Führer what are you doing?"

Hitler: "I am making a plan, to invade Norway. We just have to attack them from behind, they will not see it comming. Look here Beck see my genius plan."

    upload_2020-2-18_18-22-7.png

The Genius military plans of A. Hitler to invade Norway once and for all.

Beck: "So we get military access through the Soviet Union and Finland, a you sure that the Soviet would give military access to a large German army?"

Hitler: "I have no intent of asking, the Soviets stand in my was to conquer Norway, just as Holland, Luxembourg and Belgium stood in my way to conquer France."

Beck: "Mein Führer, the Soviet Union have a large Army and wast amount of Manpower in reserve, attacking them will give the British more men to fight for their cause. If we have to invade a Nation, in order to conquer Norway, Sweden would be a better target. Not even thinking about it, Norway would see such an attack from behind comming, before we even reach Finland"

Hitler keeps drawing, making his plan even more sophisticated.

    upload_2020-2-18_18-30-47.png

With Beck advise Hitler plans to invade from the south first, in order to make the Norwegians belive, he is not going to attack Norway from behind. But when the Norwegians think they are safe, Germany will launch Operation Yellow.
Hitler: "Sweden is sadly seperated by sea, so we have to invade the Soviet Union. But you are right, if we just move to attack the Norwegians they would see it comming. So we will first attack the Soviets from the south. When the Norwegians think they are safe, we Will Launch Operation "Yellow" in order to take them by surprise.

You have 70 days to prepare the Operation, you are dismissed Beck".

Beck thinks for himself but says nothing, salutes to Hitler and : "This could be the end of Germany, if we lose to the Soviet Union and we risk this, just to conquer Norway?"

  • Chapter 22
    2. Verdenskrig

The 10th of July 1941 "Germany Invades the Soviet Union, there where no official declaration of war, the German army just attacked, with the only warning being the large concentration of German troops at the Soviet-German Border. Mongolia and Tanu Tuva, have joined the Soviet Union in order to defend the Comintern against the facist invaders.
    upload_2020-2-23_7-3-50.png

With The German Invasion of the Soviet Union, the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact is now void
The 17th of July 1941 Danish Intelligence suggest, that the Soviet Union have already lost over 100.000 men, in the matter of a week. They Soviet have Inflictd significantly less losses to the Axis, where the Soviets have inflicted 58 thousand losses to Germany and 12 thousand Romanians. But both sides have exchanged territory at the German-Soviet Border. But the Soviet have gained some Gains in Roumania.
    upload_2020-2-23_7-13-22.png

The Soviets have made some minor gains around Moldova, but can the Soviets push the Romanians out of the War?
The 24th of July Japan Declares war of the Philippines. Due to the Fact, that they are practically an American puppet, the United States and Japan, are now at war with each other
    upload_2020-2-23_7-18-13.png

Japan is not Satisfied with all of China, but can they handle the industrial giant of the United States of America?
The 26th of July 1941 The United States of America have joined the Allies, the European war between the United Kingdom and France versus Germany and Italy, have now evolved into a Globe Spanning war. This Day is was what made the Second world war, a world war, not just a bunch of isolated wars, but a war spanning the entire globe.
    upload_2020-2-23_7-23-55.png

With The might of the US, prehaps the war against the Axis is Winnable?
The 31st of July 1941 Hong Kong have been captured by the Japanese army, due to the proximity to Japanese controlled Japan, this capture was not a surprise.

The 7th of September 1941 The British and Free French forces have made a breakthrough in Libya, they have surrounded 5 Italian Divisions and are now advancing into Vichy Tunisia unopposed for now.

    upload_2020-2-23_7-41-27.png

If the Allies can secure Northern Africa, then they will have a great base of operation, to invade southern Europe, Especially Sicily.
The 28th if September 1941 The US forces, have successfully taken an Italian Port of Livorno and have also landed some forces in Southern France west if Nice, if the Allies can capitalise on this, they may open a new Front in the Italian Heartland.
    upload_2020-2-23_7-47-0.png

If the Allies can Invade Italy, they may knock the Italians Out of the War and expose German Austria.
The 3rd of October 1941 Germany cedes control, of their Slovakian Puppet to Hungary. This is for a Reward, for Hungarian contribution to the war against the Soviet Union. Where Hungary have lost over 129.000 men already.

The 7th of October 1941 The Allies have managed to secure a foothold in the Area Surrounding Nice, Diverting a small portion the the Italian and German army to the Area, to repel the invasion.
    upload_2020-2-23_7-55-0.png

Any offensive from the Allies will most likely just be repelled, But the Axis is forced to Defend their territory from further ally advances.
The 12th of October 1941 American Forces have been repelled from the Italian port of Livorno.

The 12th of November 1941 The Allies gains near Nice, have been lost, the port of Nice have been taken by Axis forces and now 20 American Divisions are stuck in Vichy France
    upload_2020-2-23_8-3-11.png

The Naval Invasion of Nice, turned to be a Disaster for the Allies, they have to learn the Same harsh lessons of Naval invasions as the Axis did.
The 31st of December 1941 The Filipino capital of Manila have fallen To the Japanese.
    upload_2020-2-23_8-12-38.png

With the Filipino capital lost, will this be the start of Japanese control of the Philippines or will the Invasion be repelled?

    The Danish Military in 1942.
  • Sate of the Danish military 1st of January 1942.

    The Land forces.
    upload_2020-2-23_9-54-57.png

Some Danish Divisions are beginning to be really effective at repelling divisions. Dronningens Livgardedivision consisting of about 5.000 men, are the toughest Soldiers in the Danish Army. But other Divisions are severely under-strength and are not fit for combat.

Divisions 9 (4 infanteri Division and 5 "Hjemmeværnsdivision"
123 Battalions (Not all Battalions are at full strength)
61K in field, needs a total of 84K too fill all Battalions.

    The Navy
Still 4 submarines. Served by 800 men. Denmark have no capabilities to build additional ships, as Denmark is occupied by Germany.
    upload_2020-2-23_9-59-16.png

The Danish Navy, is effectively out of action, due to the German naval supremacy in the Baltics

    The Airforce

100 in action 29 in Reserve. (Wich consist of 54 Fighters model 1940 and 46 1936 models. 2.000 Men serves in the Danish Airforce.
    upload_2020-2-23_9-58-4.png

These Pilots keeps the Norwegian Skies free from Axis planes. Due to the fact, Germany have no airfields nearby to contest the Danish-Norwegian Airforce.

    Status On Manpower
Denmark is beginning to recruit and Train men from Greenland and the Faeroe Islands, in order to replenish the Danish Divisions. But there is not enough men, to replenish all Danish forces. But there is not enough Manpower to Launch any offensive Operations.
    upload_2020-2-23_10-0-3.png

If the Danish army could recruit Norwegians, the Manpower issues would not be so severe.

    Equipment.
The Danish Army have plenty of Equipment, to replace any losses. So if the Danish army ever make an attack, the will not run out of vital equipment. The Factories in Greenland keeps supplying Infantry and Support Equipment and builds fighters to replace minor losses is the air.
    upload_2020-2-23_10-4-9.png

Even if Denmark Lacks Manpower, They have plenty of Equipment to fight with.
    Conclusion.
The Danish Land army is still capable of Defending objectives on a limited scale, which is a needed task in Norway, so the Danish Army is still contributing to the war effort.

  • Europe at the start of 1942

    Western Europe

    upload_2020-2-23_10-18-29.png

Germany still controls France. The American attempts to liberate southern France have failed.

    Northern Europe
    upload_2020-2-23_10-19-45.png

Norway still stands, despite constant attempts by the Axis to conquer Norway, Denmark is still occupied by the Germans.

    Eastern Europe

    The Balkans

    upload_2020-2-23_10-20-46.png

Italy Controls most of Greece, Bulgaria have taken a lot of Greek coast and Macedonia. But no major Changes in the Balkans have happened.

    The Eastern Front

    upload_2020-2-23_10-21-23.png

The Axis have made some Gains in the northern and central part of the front, the Romanian part of the front is stagnant. Both sides have lost over a Million men on the front. The front is not even 6 months old. But this is the most important (and only) front in the European theatre of the Second world war.

Africa at the start of 1942
  • Africa at the start of 1942.
Where the war in Europe have been quite stagnant and no major changes, except the German invasion of the Soviet Union, Africa is different, both sides have made gains in Africa, in each side, the Allies in the North and the Italians in Ethiopia. But the Allies are making the most significant gains in Africa.

    Northern Africa.

    upload_2020-2-23_10-34-33.png

In 1941 the Allies have managed to Take Tunisia and Algeria and are now making gains on Morocco, if they keep making gains, the Allies may secure all of north Africa.

    Western Africa
    upload_2020-2-23_10-37-13.png

There have been no major gains or losses for either side in West Africa. The poor infrastructure and weather makes any offensive costly.

    Eastern Africa
    upload_2020-2-23_10-39-12.png

The Italians have retaken Italian Somalia, but with the Allies Naval supremacy, the Italians will not get reinforcements, so they are risking to overextend themselves and some Italians Divisions are Surrounded that the coast of the red sea in Eritrea.

The Japanese, have made many gains since their declaration of war against the Phillipines, the Eastern Asian theatre is the widest and most chaotic front. Stretching from Kasmir in Northeastern India, to Burma in the Mainland. The Front is in reality two separate front divided by the Himalayas and Neutral Tibet.

But the Japanese have also made gains in Malaysia, Papua, Southeast Indonesia and are currently invading the Philippines.

    Chapter 23 "The Passive time"
  • Chapter 23
    Den Passive tid

    The 26th of January 1942
The Swedish Government have given Denmark permission to supply their navy, from Swedish ports. Denmark is now sending their 4 submarines to Göteborg.

The 20th of February 1942 Tanu Tuva have joined to Soviet Union, as a autonomous province in Soviet Russia.

The 21st of February 1942 Siam joins the Japanese faction, but have not entered the war, but it is likely they will soon join the fight, as Japanese soldiers are entering the country in order to prepare an assult on the rest of French Indochina and moving into the Brittish Raj, from the south
    upload_2020-2-23_16-9-31.png

If Siam had an army at French Indochina, they could have taken huge gains, as it is an opposed flank, in the Allies frontline. But that is not the case and both sides, quickly reinforced the Siamese border.
The 9th of March 1942 The Italian Capital of Rome, have fallen to a British naval invasion, this is the headline in all major english speaking newspapers.
    upload_2020-2-23_16-17-52.png

The British now have Rome, but can they hold it?

    upload_2020-2-23_16-19-37.png

The Front in Italy, the Americans have taken Venice and the British Rome, but now it is a race for both the Allies and Italians, to reinforce the new fronts.
The 13th of March 1942 Siam have Joined the Japanese war effort.

The 23rd of March 1942 Italy have retaken Rome, the Allies where not able to send enough troops to secure their foothold in Italy, so the Invasion failed, Italy will fight on for much longer, only a pocket of British resistance remains in Europe.
    upload_2020-2-23_16-25-38.png

To many naval invasions are have failed, only Japan have showed any success at invading land from the Sea. But that was mostly light guarded colonies or Islands.
The 28th of March 1942 British forces have landed in Sicily, will they bring enough men to hold the position or will it fail like so many invasion like before?
    upload_2020-2-23_16-29-17.png

The British are quickly moving to Secure Sicily, but no Divisions are ordered to guard the Port of Messina, which but the forces at risk of getting trapped, if the Italians retake the port.
The 8th of May 1942 The Axis presence in Nothern Africa is now gone, with the ally capture of Cassablanca, the last Vichy port, the Axis no longer have any significant presence in North Africa.
    upload_2020-2-23_16-40-1.png

With one front won, the Axis will no longer have any presence in Northern Africa and the Italian navy, will be stuck in the Mediterranean and prevents the Italian and German Navy to combine their forces.

    Chapter 24 "The Reorginasation"
  • Chapter 24

    Reorganiseringen

With the Norwegian Army now consisting of 23 Divisions Danish Assistance, in order to Defend Norway is no longer Needed, the Danish army in Exile, have decided, that the Danish army can be of Better use, outside of Norway and are beginning to reorganise the land Army, in Order to plan and execute naval invasions around Europe, in order to make sure, that the Allies can get a foothold in Europe. But Denmark lack manpower and the Army is undestrength, so all "Hjæmmeværnsdivisions" are reformed into new a "Marinedivision", wich have less firepower, but needs less manpower to fight. (2200 less men, in order to fight at full strength, compared to the Standart Danish fighting Division)
    upload_2020-2-23_16-52-44.png

This new Division, will also be equipped with an engineer company, in order to capture and maintain equipment.
The Danish army in Exile have plenty of Experience, defending against naval invasions, but now they will be tasked at executing them, but perhaps the experience of defending against such invasion, can give the Danes an edge when attacking from the Sea.

    upload_2020-2-23_17-5-49.png

The Danish army is now even smaller on paper, but the paper is now close to reality.

The Task at hand is simple, get a foothold in Europe, the Execution seems next to impossible, but prehaps the Danish Army can practice in a place, that is not the Fortress, that is Axis Europe?

The 29th of July 1942 all Danish Forces have arrived in Africa.

The 7th of August 1942 Mexico joins the Allies.

The 13th of August 1942 The Danish marines have arrived, at their final position, at Mogadishu, they are now preparing a naval invasion of Italy's only Naval port in east Africa. They will need some time to Organise.
    upload_2020-2-23_17-26-6.png

Could this work? Time will tell.

The 20th of August 1942 The Danish army is now ready to launch, their first naval invasion, in order to cut off, all Italians supplies in East Africa. If this succed, the Axis will no longer pose a threat in the Region.
    upload_2020-2-23_17-29-25.png

The 21st of August 1942 Denmark launches the Invasion of the Italian port in Somaliland, they are expected to arrive in for days and 3 hours.

The 24th of August 1942 Danish Forces are day from the coastline, they have not sighted any Italian divisions.
    upload_2020-2-23_17-34-46.png

If danish forces can take the port unopposed, they will have a long time to entrench and prepare for an Italian counterattack.
The 25th of August 1942 The Danish forces, have taken the port unopposed, many soldiers where surprised, that such a strategically port, was not guarded at all. The danish forces are now beginning to dig in to defend against any Italian attack.
    upload_2020-2-23_17-39-12.png

There are only a few Italian divisions, that could immediately launch an attack, what the Italians do, remains to be seen.
The 26th of August 1942 The Italians have launched a minor attack, on the now danish controlled port, in order to disrupt the danish attempts to dig in.
    upload_2020-2-23_17-42-18.png

The Danish Divisions may be encirled, but they the British have almost reached the port.
The 28th of August 1942 The minor Italian Attack is over, the Italians took major cassualties to danish Artillery barrages and machinegun fire, the Danish forces only lost 20 men and the Italians over a thousand.
    upload_2020-2-23_17-45-41.png

The Italians may have distrupted the danish attempts at digging in, but that costed them dearly.
The 30th of August 1942 British forces have pushed the Italians off the coast east of the danish controlled port, giving the danish forces direct land access to the position.
    upload_2020-2-23_17-49-29.png

With the allies securing their regained control of the East African coast, a large portion of the Italian Army is now trapped in Africa, with no means of escape.
The 18th of September 1942 Germany have managed to secure a port in southern Norway and have made significant gains. The Danish navy, docked in Oslo was also sunk, by the Germans.
    upload_2020-2-23_17-54-39.png

The Germans somehow managed to secure Oslo and is now determinated, to finally invade Norway once and for all. Prehaps the danish army should not have left Norway...
The 1st of November 1942 The Germans have captured Trondheim, Bergen, Kristiansand and Stavanger, Trapping the Norwegian Army in Norway with no escape, Norway will soon fall.
