It's funny how a purely graphical DLC doesn't feel worth the money, but everybody absolutely loves new graphical options as part of a mechanical DLC.

What I personally wish for though is more human name lists like Humans SPQR (Latin), Aquatic 2 (pirate), Aquatics 3 (Carthaginian), Aquatic 4 (English), Necroid 2 (Egyptian), Necroid 3 (Aztec) and Toxoids 3 (Finnish). I especially miss a German namelist so I can make HRE in space, but a Norse, Chinese or Japanese one would be very nice too.

@Eladrin Considering a namelist is just a text file with comparatively little that can go wrong, could we maybe get some as part of custodian patches? To me making a namelist sounds like a great assignment for a new intern. ;)

I also want Paradox, as a Swedish company in good standing, to know that I am being forced to use the Toxoids 3 namelist for my space vikings empires because it's the most Scandinavian one available and I will continue to do so until a more appropriate namelist is added to the game. You have been warned.
I agree and will add that I'd like to see more species names. When I create a new empire, I usually have a solid idea about the theme, but not the name and use the random name generator. This has gotten quite stale for me.

(Oh dear, I've become a PDX player that asks for name lists!)

I'm fine with more human name lists, just as long as they're labeled as such.

Specifically, I don't like how Aquatics 2 is a human name list that aliens can spawn with: nothing takes me out of the game more than finding out my closest neighbor is led by a sentient jellyfish named Riptide Jack.

Again, it's cool for humans and cool if you play Stellaris for the memes, but I really don't like random aliens spawning with these name lists.

I loved toxoids, even if all the traits are iffy (besides incubators anyway) because it brought new civics and origins. That's all the mechanical stuff I need out of a new DLC to like it, so getting a few for 8ish bucks is great. Similarly the new civics and origins they sprinkled into the old species packs were my jam (slightly soured by what happened to habitats at the same time).

But, more to the point, I'd have loved astral planes if it was literally just the civics without any of the astral plane mumbo jumbo and it was less than 10 dollars.

One day we'll get the sexy species pack with the hot skimpy-clad space babes (and dudes). You know, like Na'vi, Twi'leks and other apostrophed species of exotic-colored hot humans with tails, cat ears or tentacles. And it will sell like hotcakes.

Might have to wait for Stellaris to be on its deathbed before the devs pull the emergency lever though.

My top three would probably be...

  • Draconic pack
  • Felinoid pack
  • Insectoid pack
And may I just add, you have no idea how hard my phone's spellchecker fought me on those last two.

Additionally, if these fell under existing categories (reptilian, mammalian and arthropoid for these three) it would be a perfect opportunity to add category-locked traits to more than just plantoid, fungoid and lithoid, which is among my top "not that much of a problem but I really really hate it" issues.

I'd rather they not lock traits behind species classes. I much prefer how the humanoids pack just adds new trait options locked behind the DLC itself.
I would also prefer that, actually, but as it stands three portrait classes DO have exclusive traits and all of them having it is better than some, even if none is better than either.

If portrait classes had nothing unique, I'd play humans mostly, and that would be less visually interesting.

It's nice to face new & different species design constraints for different portraits. Otherwise, I might do the same thing over & over and then I'd just get bored of the game faster.
