I cannot get the game to install on just about every computer I try. I have 2 at home one with a matushita cd drive and one with an lg drive and both report an i/o error while installing.
I then tried it on a friends computer with an nec drive and everything works fine. Does anyone have any ideas?

Please post system details, publisher version (SF/VP/etc.) as per the sticky at the top of the forum called "You Must Read This Before Posting" and we'll see what we can do to solve your problem.

Thanks.

Fixed peculiar install bug

I had a similar problem. So did this person back in December on this same forum: http://www.europa-universalis.com/f...allation+media+or+a+corrupt+installation+file

The error occurs during the installation of the .mp3 files into the music folder of the game. Some times, it was the same exact .mp3, other times a different one, but always when the music was being installed. A box would pop up saying: "An I/O error occurred while installing a file. This is normally caused by bad installation media or a corrupt installation file." Then you can abort or retry. Retrying does not work, no matter how many times you try. Then, when you press abort, the install cancels.

I was very frustrated by this problem, and even more frustrated at the lack of information about this problem. I quickly realized that this is a rare error, so there would of course be little or no help available (believe me, I scrubbed that disk till my elbow was sore!) I brought the game back to EB, and got a new one, the new one also had the same problem. I then knew it had to be my computer. Here's my specs:

AMD Athlon 1.33GHz
ASUS A7M266
WinXP Pro, SP1
256MB RAM
GeForce 4 4600
SB Live! 5.1
Acer 56x CDROM drive
Game published by Strategy First

The problem, for me, was the CDROM. I tried copying the setup to the hard drive, that didn't work. I then tried reconfiguring the PIO modes and UDMA modes. The default setting for secondary master is auto on my mobo which chooses PIO mode 4, UDMA 2. After trial and error, I configured the secondary master to use CDROM with PIO mode 4, and UDMA disabled. When I installed this time, the installer crashed, and WinXP wanted me to report it. Then, I copied the setup file to my desktop, and when I installed from desktop, no more error!

So, here it is, step-by-step:

1. Check your mobo's CMOS setup (press 'del' or whatever key puts you into setup) when the computer is just booting up.

2. Whichever CDROM drive you are using to install, change it from AUTO to CDROM, then configure PIO mode 4, UDMA disabled. Save changes and exit.

3. When Windows comes up, copy setup file only from CD to your hard drive, then run it from your hard drive.

4. Pray it works for you too.

Well, I hope this helps anyone else with this problem.
