Good evening, a bit late today for the Wednesday report. This week overall players increase (+8,40%) however PDX is decreasing (-4,08%) compared to all other GSG publishers (+14,71%).

The explanation cannot be seen in the top charts as we didn't follow Endless Space game that has recently been given a discount and peaked players yesterday. I have updated the chart to show the crazy effect. It seems all GSG players have switched to play this 2012 released game this week.

For the smaller player base I have also included Old World, a 2021 game in a similar setting of I:R that is still receiving updates like the one that happened this January. This week they have similar 24h peak players than IR:

Old world is like a mix between imperator and civ, but more like civ. Aso we have humankind, old world and the new game being cooked by paradox. And even so until now civ 5 and 6 are kings of their genre

Old World also has mechanically a good spoon full of CK3 in it. It comes with huge character centered RP potential and a tons of events and while to some extend it suffers of inevitable repetition as those as well, it IMO does one thing better than CK: The events have very strict conditions/triggers, so immersion is kept and you will see new events, as soon as you change your playstyle. Also the AI is quite capable, meaning it knows to play the game by its rules (and in consequence, it mops up the floor with an unprepared player) - and as @IsaacCAT already pointed out, the game is excellently maintained (weekly patches on a public beta branch, going monthly to stable). So while in genre and scope I wouldn't call it a direct competitor for pdx GSGs, I can still really recommend to give it a try, if one is into strategy games and a challenge.

While I'm all for Milennia being a success I don't think it has what it takes to be a serious Civ contender. Perhaps it can carve out its own niche like Old World and Humankind, but Civ has been king since '91 for a reason.

This week it seems steamdb has included a lot more of games in the category of Grand Strategy compared to last week. From 169 games to 813 games this week. However, the total 24h Peak Players has not been affected as the majority of new games have very few players.

This week all GSG players are down (-13,40%) due to the Endless Space crazyness from last week, PDX published GSG are stable (-0,45%) while other publishers are down (-18,85%). Are these 40,000 players potential GSG clients that have yet to find their game to get hooked to the genre?

The top chart shows the debacle of Endless Space while all other titles remain stable, except Civ VI that keeps descending this week but still on top of the GSG podium.

The less popular games chart shows I:R on pair with Old World this week. Another highlight is Star Trek: Inifinite a new game that does not show any sign of turning around:

Yeah, I think that game is finished. I suspect PDX won't give Nimble Giant a new contract to continue work on the game. It's too bad, but also to be expected given it's a glorified mod for Stellaris.

Victoria 3 needs help.

Good morning,

This week there is an increase of +2,62% 24h peak players due to another peak of Endless Space, how long will stay on pair with Stellaris? No one knows. PDX remains stable (+0,77%) compared to other GSG publishers (+3,58%). The Millennia demo does not show up in the charts as STEAM DB has not given the game the GSG category. It is at 1,942 24h Peak Players.

Top Games except for Endless Space remain stable this week:

For the small GSG, for the first time I:R has surpassed Victoria II as the most played game, probably youtubers like Laith or OPB have sparked a renewed interest in the game with their recent videos about it.

Also, Age of Wonders 4 has returned as a GSG for STEAM DB.

Very interesting and good news that Imperator makes some gains. Here's hoping that this will continue.

Thanks
I'm surprised where AoW4 is. +50% versus last report. Was there something special recently?
I did not mention it, but it AoW4 announced last week its next DLC, releasing end of this month:

Welcome back to St. Valentine's day week. Overall numbers are down compared to last week (-2,43%) with PDX increasing (+4.64%) and other publishers decreasing (-5,98%).

The effect of Valentine's day is not the same as last year and we could say that correlation is not causation. However, the effect of Endless Space is clear and explains the difference between PDX and all others Publishers numbers.

The small caps see Endless Space going down to Victoria II level of players and I:R going down to Old World numbers. Star Trek: Infinite seems to have reached a bottom this week.

I'm very curious to see the spike in players numbers with the streamer event that happened today!
I am curious too. However, my chart only shows 24h peak players on Wednesdays, and will not show any spike from yesterday, unless some players start to play the game from now on.

For the record, yesterday spike was double the normal one but far from day one attendance:

I know I contributed on Saturday and played I:R.

How did we do? 1,318 players isn't enough.......

We need better marketing for these play-protests to get the numbers needed to incentivize PDX to restart the game.

Even if it one of the best in my opinion after the 2.0 update.

If there's an organized attempt so set a high number of momentary peak players, besides the date, a time should also be thought about. People in different timezones tend to play at different times.

The results are here, This week PDX goes down a bit (-2,22%) while other publishers remain stable (-0,94%). Overall, we lose GSG players (-1,40%) this week.

The top dogs are stable, with EU IV, Civ V and CK III almost having the same number of 24h GSG players this week:

The small caps see more movement. I:R gets some attention after this weekend when some youtubers joined an inniative to bring up number of players trying to revive the game. Endless Space spikes again.

Ho ho ho! This week after the I:R unofficial official day, the numbers are up and PDX has discounted the game, helping the fire of Olympia remain alight:

This week total GSG numbers are up +3,36% with PDX +1,40% and other publishers +4,45%.

The big boys see a resurgence of CIV VI and Warhammer III this week, with Age of Wonders 4 getting into the club with the last expansion released yesterday:

While our beloved I:R keeps its way up, surpassing the 1,000 24h Peak players threshold. Will it increase and get the attention of PDX to restart development? We can only hope.

I hope that too...

Look what a limited discount can achieve. I mean there are currently 950 Players online over Steam, everytime i looked there were only 400 - 500 players

I wonder what can be achieved when an update came out with a big announcement (with big announcement i dont mean the little announcement that happend with the Marius update)

While the discount probably help alot I would think that the "revivie Imperator" day with streamers on YouTube helped even more with getting people to understand the solid state, and even better state with Invictus, that the game is in. Without the streaming I would think that people would just shrugg at a discount for Imperator.

Seems like the top player count on I:R since unofficial day has been around 1100, instead of the 800ish before.
Hopefully the sale will increase it even more!
