I just formatted my hardrive and wanted to instal eu again. Didn't work!

So I read the reinstall thread and deleted the eu folder from my registry.

I can't find any eu uninstall information in the installshield folder, probably because i formatted anyway.

Now if I try to install via autorun, i get nothing and the setup file doesn't work because it's not a proper Win32 app or something like that.

If anybody could help I would really appreciate it cause I love this game.

Thanx in advance!!!

If you have Windows 95 then open the EU CD and run the Winsock 2 setup. The file is in a "Win 95" folder and is called Ws2Setup.exe or something similar - its the only file in there anyway.

But I don't have Win 95 I have Win 98SE, and for some reason ther is no ws2setup.exe in the win 95 folder. Actually there is no file at all in that folder.

Come on!!!!!!!
Somebody must be able to help. I'm really getting desperate,

HELP PLEASE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes I have read the support forum and it doesn't offer any help. From reading all the threads concerning my problem however, I think that ws2setup.exe might be the solution to my problem.

The problem with that is that my "D:\accesories\Win95" folder is empty so I don't have the file everybody is talking about.

So if anybody might be able to mail me the file i'd apreciate it.

"macchiavelli1513@gmx.net"

Oh, and btw, if anybody thinks that this is a ridiculous idea, hey I'm desperate ok.

And in case anybody is wondering, yes I did buy the original version, it was only 30 marks (15 bucks)

Fearlessly braving any legal liability to which I might be exposed by my actions, I have mailed to you the ws2setup.exe you requested.

However, I might ask if you have an antivirus program, that you have not disabled? (After about five embarassing incidents, I have learned that usually if I cannot load software from a CD, its because Peter Norton is trying to protect me from the evil demons that live on the CD...)

Yes I do but I disabled it, didn't help though.
Thanks for the file didn't help either, well it was just a desperate attempt.
I wrote a letter to the support guys, may be they can help.

Thanks anyway.

Any further suggestions and/or solutions to my problem are still, of course, most welcomed.

Yes - one last one.

Yesterday, there was a stickied thread in one of the fora - possibly the Support Forum - that dealt with the problems of a partial or incorrect uninstall of EU, with failure of a subsequent reinstall attempt. It noted what had to be done - including work on the registry - in order to fix the problem. You might look for this thread, as it was in response to a number of people having the same problem which you seem to describe.

After posting my last message, I realised that it would be easier for me to find the subject thread and post it here, rather than tell you where to find it. So here it is:

*********************************************************************
Reinstalling EU
There appears to be a lot of Brothers, Sisters, Friends etc going around uninstalling EU incorrectly!
If this is done then it is difficult to reinstall the game as "bits" are left everywhere and the Game Installation is fooled into thinking that the game is still installed.
If this has happened to you then try this:-

You have to manually delete a key in your registry. You do that by starting regedit (Start => Run => regedit => Enter) and navigate to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Paradox Entertainment" and delete the Europa Universalis key. It looks like a folder in regedit.(If you have applied more than one Patch then there might be more than one key).
If you are nervous about editing the Registry then get someone to do it for you. However if you only delete the above key(s) no harm will be done.

You also have to delete some installation files.

InstallShield creates a directory where it keeps all the information on installed software. On my machine it is 'C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information'

'InstallShield Installation Information' is marked as hidden so to be able to find it you have to change folder options on you PC to show hidden files. Search for files containing 'Europa' in this directory and you will find a file called 'setup.ini' with the following content:

[Startup]
AppName=Europa Universalis
Engine=0
Copy=1
Source=0
[Languages]
Default=0x0009
count=1
key0=0x0009

On my PC this resides in: 'C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{A6F1BDF7-53A7-4AF6-84B9-0C51C722BC91}'. I'm not sure if the last directory name will be the same on all machines but I think so. Delete that directory and you will be able to make a clean install.

Have fun.........

I already read the reinstall thread and all the other threads concerning my problem I could find.

None helped:mad:

However today I'm swapping hardrives with my sister, she uses 2 of her 20 gigs and I regularly use 10 of my 10 gigs so a change is long overdue anyway.

Hopefully that will solve the problem and after 4 days of not beeing able to play, I think I'm gonna celebrate tonight.

... I certainly hope so. However the fact that the Folder "Win95" was empty doesnt make me think so!
Either you were sold a duff/illegal copy or the CD has got damaged. That file (although you do not need it) should be there. It makes me wonder if there are other files missing/unobtainable.

Hope it works for you...........

Well I guess the cd is fucked, because even with the new hardrive the problem still remains.

DAMN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One more thing.

Isn't there some place where you can download the install prog and try to open setup.exe with that?

And is it normal that the setup.exe file can't be opened manually (dobble clicking) or should you be able to open it manually?

Well I bought a budget version from amazon.de, I can't imagine it's a fake. Besides it worked the first time I installed it.

Have you tried installing it on your sisters machine?
It would be worth a try - it might be the CD ROM Player that is at fault.

I wish I could wave a magic wand to help you........

Well I tried to run the cd on a win 95 machine with a 4speed cd-rom, not my sister because I still have to put her comp back together, and that cdrom couldn't even read the entire cd, setup was missing for example, so I figure it's a problem with cd.

And that means that it is at last a week before I can restore Prussia to it's rightful place;)
