In my games carthage gets massive if I dont attack them soon in game as rome. I wish they wouldn't annex all their client states.
In my Rome campaigns I usually let Cartgae grow and conquer everything in one go with the imperial cb. The pic is the weak Carthage AI performing its duties.

I usually conquer italy, then the med islands from carthage. I was in the habit of taking Spain, gaul, then Africa but I'm gonna try going east first next time. Once the diadochi powers settle down they can be powerful.

Oh yes at the start Carthage definitely gets massive if AI or Player Rome doesn't keep it in check, meaning once Rome is the only one that can do it is pretty much uncontested to take all the tribes afterward.

which is unfortunate for anyone not playing Rome or Carthage.

Ignore Cartgae until 600 or later. One big war, and Africa and half of Iberia are yours.

Another solution for a too strong Carthage is removing the AI cheat for province loyalty in case of revolts - Carthage has than a lot more do with keeping its heartland under control. They usually suceed (even if they temporarily seem to lose control totally and fractate, they are somehow able to make a comeback and become unified again), but it limits their ability to greatly expand outside. I like the dynamic it gives in game I don't play Rome or Carthage, since it seems to make historic outcome (Rome defeating Carthage) more likely. I'm aware that a part of this is the Roman AI profiting from the Anatgonist modifier (which is a cheat almost as big as the loyalty one) and it is a bit sad that its needed to get Rome on tracks, but the difference is here that getting Rome steamrolling is something the game needs for a historic feeling (while every blob being amonolith is not)

Latest Game, I am in Anatolia. I beat Rome twice, but that has no relation to this lol. Third Roman War coming up soon.

what happens if you don't do tribal Reform with your first Ruler it creates a down trend spiral as all the new leaders are old they swap faster, 15% stability hit each ruler and you need 80 popularity to reform ( they get 15 - 20 popularity). On a side note Rome looking similar to yours.

lol i finally evicted a tribal family and a new one came in with no last name. Also her name is very fitting in Portuguese.

Yes, both nameless families (which are a result of the buggy behaviour that characters can lose their last name at all and their children "inheriting" this mistake) and odd choices of the Rise from Obscurity event are known and fairly widespread issues. Tribes have an additional problem - sometimes the family head is not even the same person as the Clan leader...

Rome had ¨hidden bonus¨ like other nations to hit above their weight, this is only apply when AI controls it. Regadless of that I think you shoud have the option to turn this off ( like lucky nations in EUIV). Hope Devs add this options, because I really hate playing as gauls to confront an unreal and overpowered beyond the rules of the game Rome.
