Hello! As to my understanding, you can research all the regular technologies, but the order they appear will change each playthrough. As for the breakthrough technologies, they are randomized and you will not really have access to all of them in each playthrough. If I remember correctly, I saw a video in which one of the devs said about 1/3 or 1/4 of the breakthrough technologies will be accessible each time you start a new game.
Cheers!
and they are unlocked by scanning anomalies. I believe its the ones with the eye symbol. The Paradox sponsor is supposed to get more of them.

I have two questions about research:

1 - Are the techs weighted to appear sooner or later, like Stellaris? I have watched a ton of youtubers and it seems like some regularly come earlier and some later.

2 - When unlocking by anomalies, are the results hard-coded upon generation or are the results independent? So if I were to save-scum the breakthrough techs until I get the result I want for that time?

The wiki is wrong in at least one place that I can see. The church doesn't halve output of farms. It halves the output of hydroponics. Farms work just fine.

If you can confirm it, you should correct that, then! I believe I was the one to enter that information initially and I did so by recreating the tooltip of a paused YouTube video. Perhaps the game has been updated since then... or we might have found a bug... either way, if you know something there is wrong, feel free to correct it! :)

It will be interesting to see how Breakthroughs and Save Games work. Are the Breakthroughs generated at the same time as Research or generated as I play the game. So if I load up a previous save, then I would get different Breakthroughs than my previous playthrough. Then there is the issue about whether anomalies grant the next Breakthrough on the list or whether they grant the Breakthrough associated with a particular anomaly on the map.

If I were to do it I'd have breakthroughs assigned a random seed on map creation and just unlock them in the order based on that seed as the breakthrough anomalies are researched. That way no save scumming them.

Right!

At the time of that post, the Paradox wiki hadn't yet been discovered since it wasn't (and oddly, still isn't?) on the www.paradoxwiki.com page. So as to not lead people astray, I went back and edited the original post with the official wiki address. That's the one that I have since been updating anyway. :)

The paradoxwiki.com page appears to be either a developer guide or parody page, judging from some of the content. The main page for the Paradox wikis is http://wikis.paradoxplaza.com/ and does indeed have the Surviving Mars Wiki listed.

I just wish that they wouldn't grey out once you finish researching them...This is really bothering me for some reason

Yeah, I'd prefer the other way around. "Greyed out" before researching and colored when done.

Has anyone actually researched Forever Young? I just want to be sure they still actually die.

The info screen in game makes it sound like they are immortal with the wording of "... stay in their most productive and fertile stage forever."

-- I'd settle for them just having a tick icon overlay when researched.
