It jsut clutters up the histories and makes it unreadable- meanwhile births of children are ignored, me appointing them to generalships is ignored, etc... I wonder, is this possibly modifiable?? I'd love to go to down modding this part of the game.

Let's put this in the modding forum and see if anyone can give you some advice. I've seen others talk about trimming these files.

Indeed, appointment to various posts is much more important than the billions of annoying inconsequential events. It should also list which friends/enemies they make (I don't think it does right now).

On the other hand, it would make it impossible to know if certain character flags were set on a character, if you didn't know how they responded to certain events...

Those event logs are bullshit. They don't offer any info on what happened, just name of event and the choice that was taken. Which means you have to go open event files to see just what the event was about and even then you don't have entire info, because some choices have those %to happen commands, or the influence another character, who of course, isn't listed there.

Sometimes all you need is the name and choice taken, though.

It's fairly obvious what factions a person belongs to, if they answered "The Traditional Ways Are Best" to "Roman warfare or traditional warfare", for instance.

It's not terribly necessary for a great deal of events, and the majority of events aren't terribly descriptive in their titles and choices; but without certain key events being logged in the character history, mods that make use of the character event system would be impossible to implement.
