Hi all,
I wanted to suggest some small improvements for the Iberian islands. These are the island provinces in the in game region of Iberia, so "The Baleares" (333), "The Canarias" (366), "The Azores" (367) and Madeira (368). All of these wil be small suggestions, relatively simple to implement.
1. Half English, half Spanish naming
Firstly let me point some attention to the names of "The Baleares" and "The Canarias", and their adjectives: Balearian and Canarian. The names are half English (The "The"
) and then Spanish. The English names would be Balearic Islands and Canary Islands, which also have the proper adjectives. I think either the Spanish or the English would work, maybe in combination with some dynamic names. Removing "The" would already be great, leaving for example the rather attractive "Baleares". I sometimes also see "The Canaries" in English sources.
Some dynamic naming is needed for the Balearic (Islas Baleares) and Canary Islands (Canarias) in Spanish. And for the Azores (Açores) in Portuguese.
nb: I realize The Balearic Islands and Canary Islands could be split up in the next patch, this will of course also fix this. We will see in the next dev dairy by @neondt
2. Province Capitals
Currently, the province capitals are:
- The Baleares: Palma (This one is fine )
- The Canaries: The Canarias (from 1478: Las Palmas)
- Madeira: Madeira (from 1497: Funchal)
- The Azores: The Azores (stays like this all through the timeline)
Since most games are started in 1444, it would be nice to have a proper capital for these provinces. For the Canary Islands, this can also be done by event (see below). For Madeira, since Funchal was already founded in 1444, why not set it as capital province already? Alternatively, it could serve as a Portuguese Mission to develop the island, creating the capital. The Azores should have Povoação as capital in 1444, which can be shifted to Ponta Delgada, in an event for the 1522 earthquake.
3. Conquest of the Canary Islands
In 1444, Castille had only conquered half of the Canary Islands, the other half still in possession of the Guanches. The conquest of the complete islands ended only in 1496. It would be nice to have some flavour to the Province. At the very least, let the province start of as berber in 1444, and make a simple event about the conquest of the last islands (this event could set the capital to Las Palmas). Though actual conquest is of course more fun.
4. The incredibly small name of the Canary Island Province (see attachment)
I guess the province is ashamed of its weird naming. Given a new name, it can be out and proud again.
