So this idea if implemented would change a lot but isn’t a total rework as IR IMO needs tweaks primarily. Reworks are great but I’m hoping to suggest stuff that fits IR’s current spirit.

My aim is stop a Gaulic tribe from playing the same as a Balkan one or a North African or a Central Asia tribe. The core government mechanics are the same and while Religion separates the play style it is fairly passive and doesn’t make itself known every month.

My idea is a completely revamped heritage system or if PDX implements it to build upon the heritage system.

The basics of the idea is to have a massive bonus for either a region/area or a specific notable country or a group of countries. With Arheo and PDX not wanting to lock mechanics behind DLCs this should serve as a possible expansion pack that can build upon/coexist with missions.

The modifiers will be passive but will be far reaching so as to drastically affect the play style as a Monarchy in britian plays the same as an Indian monarchy with the big difference being infrequent flavor events.

Now onto the meat of the idea:

These modifiers will drastically impact a game and build upon the/a historical common occurrence for the region.

One idea for modifiers would be all Ganges valley states and the modern day Mumbai/Bombay area the modifiers would be a universal pop capitu modifier around 20-35% but a massive happiness nerf to all non nobles to symbolize the density of the area. The Deccan area would with its heavily dry area would get a +5-8 slaves for surplus infood producing areas but would conversely gain increase trade income or something relating to lack of agriculture possibly a slaves for surplus bonus in non food areas.

Rome would gain a massive buff to its military such as Heavy infantry morale but due to its historic lack of good cavalry all cavalry gain a -20% morale. While this is likely not balanced I hope my point stands that the trade offs are directly correlated to one another in a historical context.

Some ideas may only exist if a threshold is met and nightly apply for the entire game or only be achievable in late game. An example would be if start as Macedon and forms agead empire they gain 20 base culture happiness (the thing accepting a culture decreases by 5%) but the downside would be a massive diplo penalty.

Below this are some suggestions and are not any of my aims but thought it would be fun to mention some of these.

Antigonids +1 diety slot and wrong culture happiness +5% while subject loyalty is nerfed.

Carthage would gain commerce income by 30% of budget is spent on navy but navy maintence would be increased.

Kush needs love so I’d propose a diplomatic range penalty by 50% as they historically were isolated andreally only interacted with Egypt and possibly Punt. The benefit would be a massive output bonus for the happiness trade goods.

Southern Gallic tribes would gain a skirmish mercs/light infantry bonus while losing diplo relations slot as they were frequent internal conflicts and tribe disputes.

Germanic tribes may gain a happiness boost when at war but lose happiness when not at war reflecting thier “barbaric” practices. Raiding/sacking do count as war.

Athens may require its percentage of citizens to be x% gaining an investment cost decrease but lose military effectiveness (Might scale so inventions don’t counteract)

Sparta might require Ares to be worshipped and gain military xp and discipline but lose diplo slots and research by 5%.

Epirus must have below 25% max manpower but gains a massive infantry skirmers archers boost.

Judea would get a Jewish pop happiness boost while sacrificing diplomacy slots due to being surrounded by “heretics and pagans”

Some of the other groups to get something include but not limited to
Albion
North France
Non Greece based Greek culture like the S France city and S Italy (forgot its name)
Hispania
Balkan tribes
Germanic tribes
Seleucids
Egypt
N Italy tribes
Phoenician city states
S India
Bactria
C Asia
Nepalese
Parnia Parthia Zanathia (excuse my spelling) the Caspian Sea tribes)
Armenia
Bosporan (excuse my spelling)
