This short IGC FAQ will be regularily updated in the future.

Q: Can I play the IGC with any language version of EU?
A: Yes.

Q: Why do I receive an 'unknown string' error with the little country south of Venice?
A: Because You didn´t add the necessary info to text.csv. The SPR tag is not in the original file and has to be added. The readme explains how to do this.

Q: I added all the info and the game doesn´t work now!
A: Don´t use excel or any other spreadsheet editor to add the changes. This can introduce format errors while
saving. Use Wordpad instead.

Q: Why do I have to do this by myself in the first place?
A: Paradox asked us, not to include the copyrighted text.csv in the IGC but to give instructions for adding the changes instead.

Q: I don´t want to have my other files changed. May I just install 1492l.inc and IGC.eug like with the 'normal' scenarios from the depot?
A: No, because this will certainly lead to crashes. In case You want to keep Your older files, You have three options:

1) Save all the to be substituted files elswhere (quite a drag).
2) Just backup Your old savegames. If You don´t want to play the IGC anymore, install EU anew and add your savegames to the appropriate folder.
3) Install a second copy of EU into another folder just for the IGC. This is the most elegant solution if You have enough diskspace.

Q: May I play standard scenarios while having the IGC installed?
A: As the IGC files affect *all* scenarios, this is probably not a good idea: Country names, monarchs, leaders, unit costs etc. will be screwed up for other scenarios. So if You want to play a standard scenario again, You should install EU anew. Alternatively You may consider installing a second copy of EU into another folder just for the IGC (if You have the diskspace).

Q: May I at least use my homegrown monarch and leader files?
A: If You have just changed leader/monarch stats, then yes. If You added new monarchs/leaders then probably no, except if You can make sure You use IDs not used by the IGC. Also You shouldn´t put in monarch/leader files for any countries, which don´t exist in the IGC (like e.g. Iraq). The IGC uses these files for other countries (e.g. the leader file for Iraq is now the leader file for the Uzbeks).

Q: Every version of the IGC comes with a newly labeled incfile. The installation doesn´t overwrite the older ones. Shouldn´t this be changed?
A: No, this is necessary for us to not get confused (e.g. accidentally working on an already outdated file). Also this way the player can easily check, whether he has the newest version. If You don´t want to keep the older incfiles around, just delete them manually.

Q: Is the IGC more crashprone than the original GC?
A: We don´t release the files without having succeeded in playing several IGC games from 1492-1792 on highest speed setting with no crashes. Nevertheless, due to the vast amount of additional info in the IGC, there may be overall slightly more crashbugs now. But in case You experience preposterously MANY crashes with EVERY newly started game, then You will certainly have screwed up the installation process.

Q: Will the IGC still work properly when I apply a patch from Paradox later?
A: This depends on whether the patch will overwrite other files than just Europa.exe.
If it for instance provides a new diplomaticmatrix.csv then the game will crash. Other files may screw up
game balance. In case of doubt, either install the IGC again after application of the patch from Paradox or install the Paradox patch into another folder and copy Europa.exe in Your EU folder manually.

First off, excellent work on the IGC!

The README that comes with 1.05e is a _little_ confusing. It says:

'3c) Make sure the entries for HEI, KAL and SPR exist and read like this:'

but then it lists entries not only for HEI, KAL, and SPR but for 6 others. These probably need to be modified too or else why would they appear here in the first place but there is a still a minor inconsistency in the wording in line 3c.

(Since a game file is being edited here, one has to be cautious of any changes they make especially if they're new to this kind of stuff.)

May I suggest that the wording in the README be changed to:

'3c) Make sure the following entries exist and read like this:'

Regarding playing standard scenarios...

Hi,

A simple but effective way of enabling standard scenarios/save files with the ICG:

4) In your EU folder, make copies of the following folders (with content:))
Config -> Config_o
DB -> DB_o
GFX -> GFX_o
Scenarios -> Scenarios_o

I simply renamed the copies *_o to recognize them as original, then removed the saves and standard scenarios from the Scenarios folder (since they're based on the standard setup) while keeping them in Scenarios_o.

Then install the ICG, which will modify files in the original folders above. So, when I want to switch back to playing my standard scenarios/saves, I simply rename Config, DB etc. to Config_i, DB_i (_i(mproved)) and so on, then remove the _o from the others, and voila! This way it's easy to keep track on what scenarios you can play with your current setup.

Easier than reinstalling at least! ;) And only takes what, 60-65 MB extra or so...

Hey,

The read me file says to place Ireland as HEI but the Holy Roman Empire already hold those names.What do do?

The readme *should* say to place GREECE as HEI, doesn´t it? Just go to the HEI entry and replace 'Holy Roman Empire' (after the semicolon) with 'Greece'.
