Found the settings file, but deleting it didn't help... I've launched the game and adjusted everything, and one interesting thing I've noticed is even after deleting it, the "Show overlay through terrain" seemed to be turned on ALREADY, but did not do anything properly (you can see in the screenshots that it does NOT cover all terrain), so I had to turn it off and on again to work (Screenshots 1-3).

The thing is - even after closing the game and relaunching it, I have to do everything again: Elevate the terrain and turn that thing off/on to work (Screenshot 4).

I'm sorry for bothering you with all these things :( It's just something weird happening here. Perhaps it's just my game acting crazy... At least I found a way for it to work, even if I have to do something every time I launch the game. It's fine

I'm using Bitdefender by the way, I don't think there should be any problem with it interfering with the game files
Bitdefender is usually fine... and the rest really isn't making any sense. The only thing to do from here is for me to work directly with you on Discord where I can provide you with some custom builds to run to produce specific logging data. Is that possible?
I'm experiencing a similar issue described in this conversation.
The mod will open and all is well, however, as previously described, the overlay image disappears underneath the terrain becoming invisible. I also have the option enabled to allow the image to be seen under terrain, but have had no luck getting that function to work. Any ideas?

Have you tried raising the terrain height? What about toggling the visibility option on and off?

Steam.
Proton Experimental, Garuda Linux (Arch)
In that case I believe it should be somewhere under 'compatdata/${appId}' in your installation location (maybe under pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/LocalAppDataLow/, but this might not be the case depending upon your specific setup). If it's not there, you might be better off asking on a dedicated Linux/Proton forum rather than here.
Before you wrote a reply, I was able to find this folders. (/home/fiolek/.steam/root/steamapps/compatdata/)
Only there is a problem, because I don't have the folder “${appId}” (that is, according to steamdb and the game installation folder “949230”).
I created such a folder along with the subfolders 'pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/LocalLow/Colossal Order/Cities Skylines II/Overlays/' and it doesn't work.

Do you have any idea how to solve this?

If you've had to create that folder, then you were in the wrong place. The game's settings folder will be created automatically by the game, so it should always exist after you've run the game once. You're trying to find it, not create it - creating it yourself won't achieve anything.

Unfortunately, this isn't the place for generic Linux/Proton support; maybe somebody here has the answer (although you'd have to be lucky), but you'll most likely be better off in a more appropriate forum (Proton and/or your particular distro).

Once you've found the game's settings location then I can help, but anything prior to that is well out of the scope of this mod, sorry.

Hi @algernon, is there any success wrapping the terrain with the overlay image? It would be necessary to work on maps which are not completely flat. The parallax effect makes it impossible to properly position the networks if the surface is not at the same level as the image overlay, even if the image is visible through the terrain. Maybe disabling the parallax effect could be a solution during network placement. We are eagerly waiting for a solution to be able to model real-world cities. Thank you.

Installed the Mod.
Generated Satellite and Streets from terraining ateliernonta dot com
Placed 2 files in C:\Users\(my name)\AppData\LocalLow\Colossal Order\Cities Skylines II\Overlays
Launched the Game and started with any map (not custom), not using map editor at all.
Pressed Control Numpad 0 - Nothing happened.
Pressed CTRL=SHIFT PAGE UP a few times to see if it would appear. - Nothing happened
Repeated multiple times after game restarts.
Any tips or is the mod broken?

Why control-numpad 0? Did you change the key to that?

Defaul is control-O (the letter).

That's up to how the .png is generated and what the transparency is set to; this just loads the .png according to how it was saved. How are you generating the png?
I generated the png with gimp. The image has an alpha channel for transparency. But in game the black pixels become transparent as well.

Hi,

I play on GeForce NOW (cloud gaming platform) which doesn't give you access to the file directories, so I can't place an image into any folder or anything and no one on any cloud gaming service can use this mod. Could it be possible to have a field in the settings menu to input eg. an image URL so that we can do it in game? Thanks

Here is a test file exported by GIMP. I checked the pixels with python PIL. Black pixel is rgba(0,0,0,255) and full transparency pixel is rgba(0,0,0,0).
Okay, I'm back from travelling now and able to look into this properly - you are correct, in that the shader being used is an additive shader, and 0,0,0 has nothing to add, hence it won't show up.

I'll look at writing a new custom shader, but in the meantime, generate your overlays with additive mixing in mind.

I'll see what I can do.

Bringing to the top to see if there is hope to solve this issue:
