So it's been over 8 months now since the multiplayer aspect of the game was abandoned and no longer works (while I appreciate the mod, it's not actually a part of the game and cannot be listed as content), will the Steam page be updated and remove "Online PvP" and "Cross-Platform Multiplayer" or should I contact Steam about that instead?
The games multiplayer mode has been buggy for years. Now they finally have a solution. Not in form of a patch but in form of an easy to install mod (seriously... just download one file and copy it somewhere). I would not call that abandoning the game. Quite the contrary...

PS: @TinyWiking : Do you have an option to announce this patch via steam? Just a text line, reading "Multiplayer patch avaiable. Visit official forums..."?

It was announced back when the fix was developed and deployed. I just checked and it looks like since that announcement wasn't pinned, it fell off the Steam discussion topics. Thanks for re-posting it on Steam.

Just wanted to check back in here since it has been a while.

I have successfully used the multiplayer multiple times.

To clarify for people, the original post on this thread gives you the multiplayer fix.

If you read through the thread correctly, they just stopped hosting matches for people to match-make.

However, multiplayer still works. I have played it with my brothers and friends, you just need to both be online and looking for the game the other person is hosting.

Or as suggested on here, you can post availability to play the game on a thread, and do your own matching through messaging.

Those ranting this its broken and not fixed, well, the multiplayer still works, you just need this fix posted, and to do your own match making. Go make some friends.

Just follow the steps from the original post and you will be good.

Good Luck out there!

Files stored on the forum
Here is a version of the files stored on the forum, as the Google Drive link seems to have broken.
I am concerned that the SHA1 of the extracted dll does not match the sum originally posted.
Original posted BtMpFix.dll SHA1:

I created a zip file from my own copy of the original files after the original archive was removed. Obviously, I am not able to recreate the original hash. If this is a showstopper for you, then I can only point you to the recommendations of others that have downloaded the file since it was posted at the end of last year. It is not a malicious file.

I recently tried to do muti player and was very glad to find this post, but I'm still having problems. I downloaded the mod, created and moved it to the mods folder, unzipped it, made sure it wasn't double-filed and made sure modes are enabled, however the game is still saying that there are no mods detected. Any other advice on what I need to do?

I tried to make sure it wasn't blocked, but the "Blocked box" did not come up at first, and after messing around for a while it finally showed up. I clicked the unblock and okay but no luck. My friend who got me into battletech also didn't have any luck.

Any advice on what else I can do to try and get this working?

Also if this is the wrong place to discuss this, please let me know where I should.

This is the right place to ask! If you've done the steps in the first post though, I'm not sure why it wouldn't be working for you.

Can you post a screenshot of the BtMpFix.dll file in Windows explorer that shows the directory path? (or the equivalent if you're on Linux or a Mac)

Can you post a screenshot of the title screen of the game (where it has the Campaign / Career / Skirmish buttons), as well a screenshot of the screen that appears when you click on the Mods button in the bottom left of the title screen?

If you're not able to post screenshots, then post 5 times in the Obnoxious spam filter thread to get past the spam filter that exists for new accounts, and then try again.

Here you go, file location, title screen, and what I get when I press the mods button.

Thanks! Very helpful. You've placed the files in the wrong location. As per the first post, the folder with the BtMpFix files should be placed in "C:\Users\{user_name}\Documents\My Games\BattleTech\mods" Where you've placed the files is where you'd put things like ModTek mods.

That worked! Thank you.

downloaded mod lets us launch a game but immediately gives us a network error and disconnects when skirmish starts.
That sounds like you're running into this bug. If so, the workaround is to either have both games set to English, or neither game set to English.

If that's not what you're experiencing, then log a bug in this linked forum and post the requested files so people can investigate further.

It will not automatically show up. The mod download location is mentioned in the first post of this thread. Please follow all of the steps there and let us know if you run into problems.

Multiplayer games can only be played with unmodded BattleTech, although you can have one game client that has DLCs and the other game client has no DLCs and that will still work. If you're just having connection issues instead of the whole game crashing, then that's to be expected - connectivity and joining a lobby can be flaky sometimes.
