My old game loaded fine despite the updates...but, an interesting thing happened. Everyone's vassals got released, and all wars were stopped.
So the update brought world peace? I knew that the devs were onto something with their constant changes...

Hi all!

If you want to finish off any saves from 1.35, please make sure to lock your game version!

To prevent updating/rolling back to 1.35 -> Right click EU4 in your Steam library -> go to properties -> go to the betas section -> pick 1.35 in the dropdown list and let your game update.

As usual when we release a major update for EU4 - outdated mods can cause some unexpected problems. We see quite a few reports of people's games crashing when selecting units, which so far seems to be caused by outdated mods 100% of the time.

So: if you experience unexpected behavior of any kind - please try disabling mods as a first step in solving the problem.

Thank you!
That's no longer an option for me because Europa Expanded and other mods from the Expanded Family are already implementing the new changes so... I guess I'll just wait a couple of weeks before those mods get updated so I can do a new campaign :p

Some mods provide downloads for their old versions in the user mods forum or on github or discord.

Performance was what he said in the second round (and it's more believable), after what he said above was ridiculed in the forum.
OK my bad, I looked back in the Dev Diary explaining it, and the save break was indeed one of the reasons. But still only one of them, and as I read it the main point was definetly the performance.

If you drop the savefile here or via DMs to me I can give it a look but no promises
I can try, but I don't know if it'll do anything. When I bring up all of my old savegames on the initial loading screen (just before I hit "PLAY"), they all lose the wars and all nations lose their subject relations. So I don't know if it's a problem with the savefile.

Here's two of my old savegames anyway.
