I am trying to convert a model for use in CSL without much luck.

I have pretty much zero 3D-modelling knowledge but though I could perhaps wing it because all the difficult stuff (making the model + texturing etc) was already done, all that was required was some tinkering with the format, which I thought maybe I could pick up from the various tutorial videos available.
This was perhaps naive!

The model itself is freely available courtesy of NASA and is to be found here:
http://nasa3d.arc.nasa.gov/detail/jpl-vtad-dsn70

I'm getting the general impression that the whole model is over-complex compared to those that go into CSL.
I know the scale is all wrong but I thought I'd fixed that, also the way it handles it texture seems very different to what I have seen in CSL / Blender tutorial videos I have been looking at.

If someone more knowledgeable could have a quick look and prehaps point me in the right direction, or tell me if it can even be converted at all it would be appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

there's a wiki here but it's missing a lot

the model you posted has 30000 triangulated polys so its like 10 ( to 20) times to complex
also it consists of several meshes. we may only use one. the different parts are actually uv mapped but this won't help you to much as it uses several texture files aswell.
