Hey there,

First off, great Mod. Makes the game more interesting.

Playing Germany. Some things I noticed in 1941:

The UK is not building any Planes.
The US builds only Carriers, Tanks, Strat Bombers and Marines.
Russia is building a lot of Inf. Only have 4 Armored Div. None being built.
There is no Africa Campaign. Italy has no troops in Africa and Egypt is Neutral.

Keep up the good work.

Hey germanguy, thanks for the feedback, glad your liking the mod :)

1. UK will attempt to build a small amount of interceptors, but mostly focuses on land forces and navy. Guess they could benefit from a slightly larger interceptor force, will have a look at it for next version.

2. Yes, USA builds those, and a bunch of Fighters and Destroyers too, they ignore all other unit types to save up on research.

3. USSR AI builds no tanks, but in exchange they should build a considerable force of motorized and mechanized infantry.

4. Aye, I have told the Italian AI to completely evacuate Africa, against a human UK, it would be a deathtrap to send something there. Against AI UK Italy would fare better but I fear it would end in an disaster for them regardless, UK has fairly strong army eventually, more than capable of kicking the Italians out of Africa. If you are playing Germany, you can always MC them and send the troops yourself.

Howdy,

i did exactly that. I declared war on Egypt, sent 2 Panzer Korps over and then did MC with Italy and sent 30 It. Divs over. Knocked the Egyptians out and let Italy go wild. Withdrew all of my German units. All territory gained by Italy belongs to Italy. They are currently in a deadlock with the Allies in Ethiopia.

So if I understand your reasoning with Italy, is that they do nothing but sit in Italy and wait for the allies to Invade? They do not even help me when I am attacking Russia.

Satus: Germany Sept 1941. Normal/Furious.

Something else I noticed. All the Japanese troops are fighting the Chinese. When Japan joins the axis, will not the Soviets overrun all the empty Japanese territory?
The UK has no MP and has 86 IC available. They can build no more units. Is that on purpose?
Will the US do Invasions? They got a lot of Marines 57 Div and 57 Armored Div. 68 Transports

Thanks.

Hey there Lord Jarski,

I finally took some time to read the old posts from last year and this year. I found some answers to the current situations. Except for the UK situation. MP.
The game is most enjoyable. Looking forward to more tweaks and updates. Keep up the good work.

Good day, I've played your mod the other day, unfortunately, from my point of view, the AI seems a bit chaotic, it keeps making IC but hardly any armies in the case of France, while in the case of Germany it doesn't build a complete Siegfried Line all along the French border which makes France invade Germany by there, and later Germany invades France by going in the Maginot Line, then it releases Wallonia and only Wallonia, etc. The AI is also far more aggressive than it used to be, and example would be that after I annexed Ethiopia, Albania and Yugoslavia, France would invade me over Greece (although I don't know if this is because of the mod or the new 109 patch), while in previous plays nobody would attack me on "coward" just for that. A fun thing was seeing the Soviet Baltic(?) navy going to Vladivostok via the Mediterranean, something human players would do. (By the way, I can provide images if you ever need to see them.)
I feel the mod doesn't offer enough flavor with the new events, as there are hardly any new ones if you play with other countries other than the major powers, and even then, the events for Italy are very few, but I guess the point of the mod is, mainly, the new AI behavior.

Hello MihaiROU, thanks for the feedback.

- France building IC/infra heavily is done on purpose. It used to completely empty its manpower pool and create a massive army for the war, which was completely fine when AI against AI. However, I need to consider the fact that there are multiplayer games going on, with a human UK. With a human UK, having a French powerhouse like that, the situation becomes very pro-Allied, too much pro-Allied in fact. So I had to artificially slow down France. It still becomes quite powerfull if its allowed to survive in to mid 40s. But in any case, it is done for the sake of multiplayer game balance.

- German AI does not build Siegfried line, unless there is a human player in UK or France, it constructs forts up to lvl 3 if that is the case. I have upped the number to lvl 10 forts now, change will be active with next update.

- German AI going through the Maginot is an ancient problem. Again, I have to consider multiplayer scenarios, if the German AI is told not to attack large fortifications so fiercely, and a human UK or France continues the Maginot line to the Atlantic, it would effectively halt the entire attack on the West because the German AI would be inherently afraid of the forts. So a better option is to have them not be so afraid of attacking the forts, so they actually progress through Belgium and so on. But the unwanted side-effect of that is the mentioned Maginot busting.

- Creating Wallonia has a simple reason, its landlocked. AI does not send garrisons to other nations, so any puppet with coasts that the AI would release, would remain completely without coastal guards untill it can build some troops itself. If the AI had some concept of unguarded puppet coasts, I would make Germany liberate Scandinavia, but sadly, its not the case, nor can anything be done with the matter by editing the AI files.

- AI tend to honor the guarantees of independence quite well, so I suspect France dowing you was a result of your increased belligerence and the guarantee of Independence they had on Yugoslavia. One should try to wait for those to expire before going berserk in Balkans. Think it is this way with vanilla game aswell.

- There is a large bunch of new events, but they are very much spreaded around. Many medium powers and minors have got new events, but mostly yes, the majors have been on the receiving end. But more are coming in the future. If you have some ideas for new Italian or any other events, do send a message to me and I can add them.

Thanks for explaining. I just didn't see the logic behind it, that's why I asked (I also haven't checked to see if the British AI tries to send troops to France in order to help it's ally), the rest of what you said is also correct.
There could be events for (or based on) the creation of puppet states, in the case of Italy, such as https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albanian_Kingdom_(1939–43) or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Principality_of_the_Pindus or events where they get the Afrika Korps (but I guess that's improbable since you de facto eliminated the North African theater). The partial modernization of the Romanian army when it joined the Axis (although I'll have to research the subject a lot before I can say clearly how it was made, but it was mostly done to the air force), or how Germany and Romania upgraded the air defenses around Ploiești and so on. I can make a longer list of event suggestions, if you're interested in implementing these sort of events (that will have real impact), otherwise I could suggest events without real impact: Antonescu holding two referendums in Romania, which would technically show massive popular support for his regime, I guess that would mean -1% dissent in the game, or an event where Romania starts the development of the "Mareșal" self-propelled tank destroyer (the German "Hetzer" was based on it) and would get blueprints in the game for SP. AT techs, and so on.

UK AI does not send exp. forces to France, again, have to consider a situation where Axis is Human controlled, they could easily eradicate any expeditionary force sent there, so its safer to not send anything there at all, to ensure no divisions are lost to a human player. Same reasoning with Italian AI ignoring Africa.

Well with a puppet Albania, the problem of coastal guards arise again, it would effectively give the Allies a free beachhead to Balkans. Pindus principality is hard to implement as a puppet, seems it was such a small and relatively weak "organization", but perhaps giving Italy a bit of manpower to represent the support.

Go ahead and write down your list and send it over to me. I am interested in both impactfull events and flavour events like the ones you already mentioned. More events are always nice to have :) and easier for me to write them when I have list of ideas, rather than having to search for them, dont think I would have ever stumbled on that Mareșal TD, very cool bit of flavour.

List of possible events involving different countries or group of countries (for now):

Albania
-Albanian mobilization in the Albanian-Italian war (either a militia division or a 1918 infantry division should pop-up for the showcase defense of Albania). Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Italian_invasion_of_Albania

Bulgaria
-the death of their tsar in 1943. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boris_III_of_Bulgaria

Bulgaria + Greece, Romania,Turkey, Yugoslavia)
-The Balkan Pact allows Bulgaria to re-arm herself. A suggestion would be to give Bulgaria 50-100 manpower/some supplies/both. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balkan_Pact

Finland
-the construction of the Salpa Line in 1940. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salpa_Line
-Finland should get the supplies in 1944 to simulate the help from Germany at the battle of Battle of Tali-Ihantala (this can be just a flavor event, to remind people that the battle took place), it can be made into an event with impact by giving Finland the 1943/1945 infantry tech or some extra 1945 infantry divisions named after the ones that took part in the battle. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Tali-Ihantala

Hungary
-Hungarian heavy arms industry. The production of its own tanks, including a localized variant of the German Panther tank. This can be split into three or more events, one in which Hungary starts to produce its own tank arms starting with light tanks (all the blueprints for the light tanks up to, and including, 1938 light tanks), then a Swedish localized model in 1939 (obviously it will get blueprints for the 1939 medium tank), and then a third event in 1943 where it gets blueprints up to and including the 1943 medium tank (44M Tas) + the blueprints for the SP art. 1943 (43M Zrínyi). As far as I know, Hungary was the only Minor Axis member, in Europe, that produced its own tanks. Source: the wiki articles on Light Tank V3, Light Tank V4, 38M Toldi, 40M Turán, 40M Nimród, 43M Zrínyi, 44M Tas.
- You can also simulate a Slovak-Hungarian war (after the partitioning of Czechoslovakia and before Slovak soldiers event. Hungary should receive a small manpower boost, as well as -3% dissent, and since in your mod all of Slovakia is taken you can make the manpower boost a bit larger. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slovak–Hungarian_War

Hungary + Italy
-1939 event concerning the buying of the blueprints for a 1939 interceptor + a 1939 interceptor "division" from Italy. Italy can receive money from this, while Hungary can decline, purchase only the blueprint or the blueprint + an interceptor flotilla (made up by the planes bought from the Italians + those made by their own industry). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MÁVAG_Héja

Hungary + Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia, Romania
-The Bled agreement and the dissolution of the Little Entente. Similar reward as the Balkan Pact event. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_Entente#Disbanded + https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bled_agreement_(1938)

Italy (also assuming Italy invaded Albania)
-Albanian partisans should appear in late 1942 and late 1944 if the Soviet Union still exists or if the Bitter Peace didn't fire yet. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Italian_invasion_of_Albania#Aftermath
-Albania and Kosovo should either become cores of Italy or simply give some manpower 30-50 to simulate the fact that those territories got assimilated into the Italian government (including the military). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albanian_Kingdom_(1939–43)
-Italy should receive cores or manpower from the Principality of Pindus. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Principality_of_the_Pindus

Romania
-Antonescu's referendums should give -1% dissent (the 2nd one was actually carried out because of riots, lol). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romanian_policy_referendum,_March_1941 + https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romanian_policy_referendum,_November_1941 .
-the IAR program, Romania should receive the blueprints of the 1939 fighter in 1939, and then an event each year, and once a year, from 1940-1944 where it asks the AI/player to build 1 fighter flotilla/"division" for a certain cost. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IAR_80
-the Mareșal tank destroyer project. Germany gave technical assistance after the invasion of the USSR and the subsequent loss of Romanian armor. Romania began receiving tanks and other equipment from Germany, but couldn't produce its own tanks, so, as a solution, Romania began a project to allow it to build its own SP vehicle that could be build by the country's limited arms industry. The event should fire in 1942 and give it blueprints for the AT and TD line up to 1943 (assuming it would eventually expand or have other projects available, otherwise just make it a 1941 SP AT). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mareșal_tank_destroyer
-1942 event where Germany upgrades Ploiesti's air defense (supposedly 2nd only after Berlin). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Tidal_Wave#German_air_defenses

I played it through as Germany, on normal/normal. Beating Poland with more or less historical casualties (20-25k), but in half the time, is easy.

The Western campaign inevitably gets stuck in WWI-style trench warfare. I used both the real-life strategy of panzers through the Ardennes and paratroopers to speed up capturing fortresses in Belgium, and the usual strategy of striking through the Netherlands and avoid passing through the fortified Belgian provinces. In real life the Netherlands were a walk-over and Belgium, although well-prepared. My forces at this point (April 1940) are more than the Germans fielded in real life, all my infantry is heavily brigaded, but there's no apparent way to avoid death stacks before even capturing Antwerp and Ghent. A drive through the Channel coast is out of the question. 4 attempts later, I just gave up. The entire Western campaign costs me 15 days in Vanilla, but I cannot win this at all.

Am I doing something wrong?

French AI is indeed a tough nut to crack, its not the neutered fool that you face in the Vanilla game. Not to mention the Dutch and Belgians now make a fortified line, which becomes quite heavy if left to build it till 1940ish. It is extremely difficult if not impossible to take France without experiencing some losses.

French build a considerable force of Motorized divisions with AT and engineer brigades attached, so they are a very mobile force, which can quickly react to the push through Benelux.

It is difficult for me to give advices without seeing the situation with my eyes. How many divisions do you have, are they upgraded to modern standards? Hows your airforce? When do you time your attack? Wehrmacht should have at least 150 divisions for the war in my opinion, any less will struggle, some 24 armoured divisions would be ideal to have.

Some advices:

- Attack and occupy Netherlands before you attack Belgium, that opens up the Belgian fortified province for a strong assault and gives alot less time for the French to react as you are the one choosing the time.
- Ally Italy, they can push through the south, or at least force the French to pull troops to their border.
- Keep your attacks effective and concentrated, attack under HQ coverage, with air support, and to provinces that you can attack from multiple directions to gain bonus efficiency.
- Try not to assault alot during winter, the weather is a big factor.
- Make sure you have allied Hungary, they provide a good infantry force.
- Other than that, just build more divisions the next time.
- French AI does not guard its beaches, assuming its fleet and the RN can repell any invasion fleets, if you can take advantage of this, do it.

If you like, you can upload your save somewhere and I can have a look at it and perhaps offer more advices.

Hmm, looks like I just built way too few armoured divisions. I am now in April 1940, have 27 of them and 50 MOT, already had 18 when invading Poland, which was a walkover compared to my previous game (annexed them in 6 days, at the loss of just 13.000 troops, without even using air support).

My last game I started the invasion of France with the same number of divisions I use in Vanilla - about 10 armoured and 20 MOT - clearly too little. Tend to heavily focus on transport planes and the navy as Germany - doesn't work with this mod.

Anyways, this should work now. However, there is another issue I am running into. I built loads of garrisons, unbrigaded (did a parallel run of police brigades because short build times allow quicker gearing). Have 10 of them in the 3 provinces bordering Elsass-Lotharingen. But, I cannot redeploy them after having added brigades. This sucks, I have the occupation forces for all my conquered territories but no way to move them anywhere. I can however still redeploy garrisons I put in occupied Poland and didn't brigade yet....

In AoD you cannot redeploy (SR) units that are adjacent to enemy units. After defeating FRA or after clearing Elsass-Lorraine you should be able to SR them.

Yes, that amount is not going to get anywhere in France, you need a strong land force there. French can mount up to 100+ divisions eventually, you should at least have the same number of troops as they do, preferably a good deal more since your the attacker.
