Quiet awhile ago, fresh off of beating the game and filled with good will, I hopped onto the forums here and gave Majesty 2 some fairly glowing praise.
Since that time, I have never played the game again. Ever. Period.
I had no desire to and I'd come to realize that I didn't really like the game all that much. My praise wasn't based off careful consideration, but the thrill of the new and the fact that it had been a gift and so I couldn't bring myself to think ill of it. Time and more reflection have made me realize though that the game wasn't really all that fun.
Heroes had no personality, the economy was easily broken, let-game bosses seemed built in such a way as to make guild-heroes effectively useless. The graphics looked nice, but then I've never cared about those too much. Hero parties seemed to serve no function, since the heroes all often clustered up in large groups around flags anyway. There were changes in art style that I really detested. The humor of the old game was gone, replaced by pop-culture references.
Honestly, in retrospect, it was really one big mess.
The original Majesty, I played over and over. I still play it periodically. Majesty 2 has so far just sat on my shelf collecting dust.
Still, I didn't start this thread just to bash the game. I'm not unwilling to give it another chance or even pay money to see it made better, so to those who own them: what do the expansions and DLCs really change? Can I get a comprehensive list?
I don't expect things like the art direction or writing to take a huge swing, but do maps get less repetitive? Are guild-heroes actually useful in later levels as anything but speed-bumps for boss creatures? Has the gameplay changed or improved at all? Do heroes have personalities? Do parties serve a more useful function?
