I've been getting jerky performance in CK. I've scoured this forum looking for a tweaking guide and found some possibles.

In this thread, Jpd mentions renaming the tiles.bmp file to improve performance in Victoria. Will this work for CK?

Also, Castellon frequently adds this list -
1) Rename the AVI folder to AVI_back
2) Set the color depth to 16BIT
3) Turn off everything in the background like E-mail/ICQ/Messenger, Virus protection and everything in the system tray beside the clock.

While 2 and 3 make sense, I was wondering what option 1 does?

If you rename or delete the AVI folder the intro won't play, hence CK (or any other Paradox game) will load quicker. I don't know if there are additional benefits, though.

The additional benefits are that your game will not crash. ;)
The Bink player can cause all kinds of trouble by not unloading itself from memory properly.

As for the Tiles fil, I beleive it will. back it up and try it.

Small update.

Renaming the tiles.bmp file marginally reduced the jerkiness. The terrain button still works, only there's no pretty textures on the provinces.

Yup you lose the overlay. But thanks for the confirmation that it works with CK as well.

Are there any other ways not mentioned in the above posts to improve performance? Renamed the tiles and did work but lose the economy overlay also.
1)Defragging and other such programs should help.

Are there some ways such as expanding cache space,etc,...?
