improving screen resolution?

Since i had bought a new computer for HoI 3 i now have 1920x1080 a screen. HoI 2 DD and ARMA look so terrible on it.

Is it possible to improve screen resolution of the game via any mod or manual modification in some game file? I have not yet found a way.
Any other trick to not hurt my eyes so much while playing? Windowed or such?

Help appreciated! :)
 
Thx on the hint. I will try to get it windowed. If there's anything special to be aware of, I'd be happy to receive a warning. :)

I really look forward to play a game about ww2 after so long a time again. ;)
