). Perhaps around 1493-1495. Its just a question of time. Playing at 1:2 most players will have many problems to colonize and exploring while waging a war against France and looking for money. Playing as Spain i had to accept a bad peace in a war what i was winning, simply because i couldn´t afford that waste of time when all America is waiting. And i think its also convenient you do before Austria starts to expand.
PS A sort of a trick is making a deal about Calais or Franche or Artois or whatever province with England or Austria first. Since you usually get provinces in that kind of deals trough peace offers after war , you will enjoy a five years truce with them. They will be unwilling to join a war paying -5 -8 stability, and five years is a lot of time ......
