Had a look for a few pages and couldn't find a similar thread (cue someone pointing out something obvious I've probably missed), but I've been playing PDS (if you include those made before they were called PDS) games for a good while now, have put hundreds of hours in, and reckon they're awesome. Gameplay deeper than the Mariana Trench, so many different ways to play each game (often for each starting country/dynasty), a subtle sense of humour, and great post-launch support :). Am also very, very impressed with the state PDS games launch in these days - you're one of the better PC devs for robust, non-buggy releases at launch, which is no mean feat.

So thanks for all the awesome games and keep up the great work, am very much looking forward to HoI IV, Runemaster and WoN :D.

If you're gonna suck up you could at least tell the truth.

actually, paradox's release day 1.0s are pretty damn good to some other companies. plus hey, it could be worse. from what i've heard, egosoft's X3 space games generally are utterly byzantine and buggy as all hell to the point of near unplayability at launch. and there's our favorite satanic video game company Electronic Arts who has games like the latest simcity which literally was almost completely unplayable for a couple weeks (due to being online only) and battlefield 4 which is infamous for its own bugs due to being released too early.

And some companies piss off the PC players, I am still waiting for GTA V to be release on the PC.

well but that's a given. and GTA 5 isn't an easy task to port from console to computer. plus it's quite understandable to be hesitant towards putting a gargantuan blockbuster like GTA 5 on a PC considering how monumentally less difficult it becomes for anybody to pirate it. and then there's just trying to keep it updated with the console versions, PC optimization, yadda yadda.

EDIT: plus look at the rollout of watch dogs. it's been confirmed that several pre-ordered copies of the console versions have already been received by players (some of whom are now streaming gameplay) in addition to the PC version previously having been leaked & pirated not too long ago.

is making steam compulsory to play the games not enough to stop pirates?

it something exists, someone will find a way to break its rules. and chances are, someone already has.

EDIT: plus if being able to play a game required an online connection to a host like steam, Uplay, Origin (EA)... well, i'll let the atrocious rollout of the simcity reboot (technically simcity 5) serve as an example.

sure someone always can outsmart a system,
but i meant
could steam be enough to make pirated games less common then let's say 10 years ago?

if it is so pirates are a problem for video-games developer but not an increasing problem, but a decreasing one...

not really. the sad irony is that the problem and solution are really one in the same. guy pirates a game, other guy releases a hotfix or patch that includes some new anti-piracy measure or new DRM restriction. sooner or later guy #1 will get or make a counter to the new AP patch and so on and so forth. and that's basically been the way of the world from day one. which i think is literally the day that Nintendo released the Famicom (Japanese version of NES) in 1983. ever since then, it's been an ever-evolving battle with no end.

EDIT: well technically yes, having steam as the first line of defense against piracy is a good starting point, but the luster of invincibility fades quickly. the only way i can think of to seriously discourage an attempt at piracy is with a dedicated system that can't simply be turned off, like Ubisoft's Uplay.

Are there worse companies than PDS for poor releases? Yes.

Are there many, many better ones? Yes.

I've said before - many times - that Paradox is #1.

We complain so much because we love Paradox so much; we want to see them do well.

I don't know if I'd go as far as to say "many, many" atleast not unless you are going to do the same for the first question. I'd say paradox does a better job than most, especially when considering the explosion of indie companies over the last few years. Experienced companies with gigantic budgets normally are pretty smooth and generally launch better than PDS games but even than it's not a given. All that aside, you must give paradox it's due here. They are a hell of a lot better than they used to be.

Blizzard, Telltale, Supergiant, just to name a few companies that had vastly better quality releases in the last couple months alone.
Blizzard? Sure Diablo 3 was such a great bug free game at release... And even World of Warcraft was a mess at release. It got better though but at release it was not a dream game at all.
Telltale? Their games are not really complete. Episodes for games, really???
Supergiant releases are rather good but they are not fitting my gaming needs.

Yeah, its easy for people to take things for granted. Paradox provides something which is only (almost) matched by one other game I can think of - the game that makes you feel like a ruler, not a player.

So, toast to Paradox, and I hope that their recent successes just make them better at what they do :)

Heh, could speak volumes about this one, but that would be offtopic wouldnt it?

On the topic of Rockstar, I'll just say "consolitis" and leave it at that.
