Will you be doing an OOC update on the fates of the other canon characters? I'd like to see how folks like Jon Snow and House Reed ended up.

I am open to make a Q/A on the fates of canon characters, if people want it. Gimme a name, and I'll tell you their fate..either the OOC truth, or in universe view. Or both, if you so desire.

H&L I: 'House Oakheart'
House Oakheart
WLPY42h.png

(The following is an excerpt of Maester Owen's recent work, 'Exiles')

The once respected House Oakheart of Old Oak was forced from the Reach in 401 A.C after Lord Waldon Oakheart rebelled to seize the Reach from Lord Paramount Morgil Tyrell. The Oakhearts were forced out of the Reach, and Waldon's son, Ser Morgan Oakheart, turned to banditry and harried the Lord of the Reach for almost half a century as a robber knight, "The Black Oak".

Whilst Morgan was shaming his knighthood, his cousin, Lady Sirona Oakheart had married a minor member of the Antaryon family. Using mercenaries, she took over Far Ib. She spent her life building up a city and a seat, and securing her minor conquest. When she died, her youngest son, Pelleas took power after her. In early 500 AC, he was elected High Councillor of Ibben's Shadow Council.

Then, using intrigue, blackmail and murder, he replaced the other Councillors with Members of his own family. This was made easier by the fact that, in Ibben, men and women share equal inheritance, and have the right to serve on the Shadow Council. The new title of the head of the council is 'Lord of Ibben'.

So far, Lord Pelleas has focused on consolidating his family's power, but faces mild opposition from New Ibbish's Lord, Draloth.

Just a minor thing for you all. I am not entirely certain how House Oakheart did this, but it interested me.

'H&L' will be another 'Histories and Lore' thing I will be doing. Sometimes it will focus on exiled Houses, and sometimes it will focus on individuals. If you have questions about the fate of canon characters, this is the place to ask.

In other news, try to guess which one of the Small Council is about to land in deeeep trouble. There's a trial on the way!!

The interlude about House Oakheart was very intriguing -- very much in line with your usual trademark style.

And trouble and turmoil within the Small Council? Who would have guessed? :p But seriously, it was to be expected that the general shakeup the new king is subjecting the realm to would result in either some sort of push-back, or else some ambitious opportunist seeing a chance to oust a rival from their position.

And also, as far as H&L spotlights go: I'd be curious to see the in-universe take on the Bolton Exile, as well as the fall of the Greyjoys eventually. EDIT: And, of course, the Hightowers! Can't forget the illustrious lords of Oldtown.

Nice. For the record I have no idea how much of this was played out in-game, but I imagine little. What was the inspiration behind this, and how did you 'see' it? Or was he just 'the Black Oak'? Do tell.
But I also think little moments like these are excellent, and a means to help bring the world to life. I love it!

The Oakheart's rebellion basically came onto my radar when Morgil Tyrell called for aid...at 95% in his favour. Their rebellion was basically so minor in the grand scheme of things, it didn't warrant a mention in the Introduction.

Morgan Oakheart was rocking around the Reach for fifty(ish) years before dying in a generic uprising. He also really did have the badass nickname 'The Black Oak'. The banditry is purely in universe, but since he went from court to court and ended up leading an uprising, it made sense to label it as such.

The Smiling Knight of his day, as it were.

The Bolton's are probably going to be the next one I do, given their reecent return. The Greyjoy's are a good thought too, although sadly, they didn't die gloriously...less out going out with a bang, more with a whimper.

But oddly, it isn't ambition that's causing problems...but a red rose called Willow.

Quite the odd occurence. Well, the roots of an oak go deep, and hard hard to eradicate.

AUTHOR'S NOTE
Hello folks.

As I am sure you've figured out now, this AAR is dead in the water. I recently updated the game mod, and the save disagreed with it. So like with Matter of France, save corruption is the bane of my AARing career.

So 'In the Reign of Roses' will be ending here. But I'l offer you some insight as to how the save went after the coronation:

Bonifer Bloodrose, Lord Commander of the Kingsguard, is caught with a woman in direct violation of his vows. He is sent to the Wall. His daughter, Willow Waters, is legitimized as Lady Bloodrose.

The Lord of Harrenhal dies, leaving Ser Bernarr Rivers as the last of House Slynt. Offered either the position of LC of the Kingsguard OR being relieved of his cloak and granted Lordship, he chose LC.

Twin daughters are born to King Willas and his Queen, Dahlia and Cassana. Dahlia becomes acting Crown Princess.

Bonifer Bloodrose turns his cloak, and names himself Lord of Hardhome.

The Freehold of Braavos declares war on the Iron Throne, and Baratheon Lys invades Myr.

So there we go. How King Wilas II appears it was going to go.

I am deciding between either a 'Daemon Blackfyre won' history book of Kings, a history of House Bittersteel, or a House Baratheon royal line history book, either Robert's line or Lyonel Baratheon's line of Storm Kings. Or all three, eventually.

If you guys have a preference, let me know, and if you have any final questions about this 'world', feel free and ask!

Sad to see this go, but glad to see you give us some closure. Do keep us in the loop as to your future AARs :)

As for preferences: From what's on offer, I think I'd most like to see Lyonel and his "Laughing Storm" kingship. I don't think we've really seen too many AARs from the "Dunk and Egg" starts, surprisingly.

Sad to see it end, so I'll leave with a plaintive plea for you to run a game and make copious notes, so a patch doesn't kill your game!
I like your writing and AAR, so I hope to see you come back with a good one. And I'd love to see it end ;)

If you think you can run a story where the Bittersteels succeed in placing a Blackfyre on the Iron Throne... I'd read it. I'd also be a sucker for a 'Storm King' / Baratheon run. I love AAR's which don't just set themselves with the most powerful ruler on the map.

It happens - no worries :D

Well, given I have a week off now (Woo!), it looks like I'l be doing a Baratheon Storm Kings Historybook. Let's see how far the Laughing Storm's line can go, hm?
