There are times when I wouldn't mind having the national leader lead a legion, and there are times when I don't want my governor or ruler leading a levy.

Well the word from the Devs is that it would be quite a fundamental change to how they have set up the Character system, so I doubt it is an easy task for a mod.

Completely agree with the comments here. For Diadochi factions it messes with the immersion of the campaign. The major Greek rulers were expected to lead their armies into battle or they would be perceived as weak and overthrown. Phillip II, Alexander the Great, Kassandros, Lysimachos, Ptolemy, Seleukos, Antigonos, etc. all led armies in person at various points.

These rulers typically commanded their best troops too. Can you imagine if Alexander rode with a few light militia cavalry instead of his Companions?

I took a break for awhile and came back to this... It's a huge change and one I'm not really fond of. Rulers in that time lead armies. How many stories of great battles end with one ruler/leader or other falling on their sword to avoid capture, or just straight up dieing on the battle field.

I know they take charge of any levies from regions they are governor of, but I don't think that's accurate. The levies were typically forces of the lower "nobles".... the "Army" was lead by the Ruler.....

That's the middle ages you're thinking of.

Given what levies represent in IR, it makes perfect sense that the ruler would lead the capital levy. It just doesn't make sense that he can't also/alternatively lead a legion.

Even worse now, as we're stuck with that absolutely awful design decision forever now that game is officially dead.

At least this thing can already be fixed/changed by using a mod...

Several unfixed bugs mind me a lot more, but I concede that priorities here are subjective.

That would be filed under 'extensive under-the-hood redesign', rather than a fix ;)
And we won't see that redesign that'd include ruler led legions :( I was also waiting for improvements to Legacy of Alexander CB. Heck, we won't even get the postponed subject rework from over a year ago most likely as well. It's like an unfinished great wonder now.
