Is there some late game option to get into areas surrounded by "uneven terrain"?
My only source of mineable metal so far is in such area, non of my RCs can get there (not to mention laying energy cables) and I'm worried I'll have to start a new map (and this is my first game, so you know I'm not so eager to lose the progress).

The problem is even bigger as it appears that my whole map is being split by half by a seemingly impassable mountains; is there any way to get over them?

there is the Tunnel building in the infrastructure tab
it is expensive, especially in early game, but you need to get the material only to the first entrance and build that, second entrance is free and will be constructad alongside the first
this way you can connect the upper and lower lvl of the map, but for that small patch with the iron it wont work, as you need a dome near the iron to build a extractor and fill it with workers
tunnel allows to conect energy and water networks and passage for rovers so you dont need to send a rocket with another explorer to be stranded in the upper part
and for colonist and resources you have the shuttle hub that has shuttle to transport stuff/people all over the map

and maybe you are lucky to find a deep metal or deep rare metal deposit near your location after deeep scaning the area again (deep scaning tech is around the middle of the physics tree), but then you need the expensive physics tech deep metal excavation found in the right part of the tree to acces such a deposit, but as compensation it will hold much more metal/rare metal then regular deposit, can be over 2k metal/rare metal

For small depressions, there is often somewhere on the rim where you can get a pipe across.

For large elevation gaps, or to cross large empty spaces without drone hubs, you can use tunnels. They're a bit expensive to set up, but require zero maintenance.
