I am playing as the English. And they are very poor early in the game compared to the countries such as France and Spain. Could someone plz tell me a way to balance my income and at the same time be able to have some funding for exploration. I really want to get Trade Level 3 so i can aquire monoploies but the English are still researching Level 2 when you start with them...

2) I have the strongest navy in the world so far (or so it says). Is there a way i can declare war and steal someone's exploration maps in a sea battle?

3) Whats a Ceuis Basile (or something like that)? Sometimes when I declare war it says I am lacking a Ceuis Basile so I will lose 1 stablity point. How do i declare it against other countires?

4) Stablilty Points...How do i raise them?

THNX IN ADVANCE ALL...and if anyone is intersted, I fixed my previous problem...the game loads and saves fine now thx for all your previous and current help...

1) Play France, Brits are going nowhere :D More seriously, send merchants to foreign CoTs (you don't have any at the beginning) and invest in trade and also in infrastructure (trade first!)

2) Use your diplomatic option and declare war on France. That way, you'll get your but kick fast enough so you will learn not to play dumb countries :p Actually, any AI nations are easy preys, so attacking France with the help of Spain might not be that bad. If you really are after the maps though, Portugal is the country to go after.

3) Casus Belli (CB). When you look at the political map, any province where you will see your shield is a core province and that will give you a CB against any nation owning it. Aside than that, you have CB against nation that are imposing an embargo against you and in some cases, a different religion will provide you a CB.

4) Invest in stability :)

It might be a good idea to read thro the "stickys" in this Forum. Especially the one with "Newbie" in the title as that contains many links to good informative posts.

First things first. England starts slow and then picks up speed. The game period is three hundred years. As other powers begin to fade, England comes into her own. You don't have to hurry. Some tips on managing your money.

-Promote tax collectors and other officials as soon as you can. Tax collectors will increase your yearly revenue. Be careful however, they also increase the revolt risk.
-When short of money, use your army/navy maintance sliders to maximum effect. Slide them all the way down to 0% maintance and watch the money you save. Another warning, this will greatly decrease your troops moral. If there is a revlt, the revolters may win. And it will take three months to get moral back to normal if you go to war or are attacked. Don't forget to chagne them when you go to war also. I forgot once. It was a disaster.

Yes. During naval engagements there is a chance that you will get "stolen rutters." However, it is random as far as I can see. So don't base your entire colonization strategy around a single naval battal with Spain.
3) Whats a Ceuis Basile (or something like that)? Sometimes when I declare war it says I am lacking a Ceuis Basile so I will lose 1 stablity point. How do i declare it against other countires?
A casus belli is latin for a "an event or action that justifies or allegedly justifies a war or conflict ." It means that you have good reason to stick it to your enemy. If you go to war without a good reason i.e. you are a warmonger, your country will be destabalized and the world won't look too highly on you. In the territory screen you will see little English Shields-this is land which England claims as her own. If another nation controls a province with one of your shields, you will have a good cause to go to war agianst them. A trade embargo in distand CoT will also give you a CB. Also, there are random events which will do the same.
4) Stablilty Points...How do i raise them?
You can devote more of your income to stability by adjusting the stability slider in the "slider screen." Can't recall what it's real name is. However, you will be taking money from other areas such as research. So your tech advances will slow down until you get back to perfect stability or you adjust the slider again.
