In principle, the RC transport's "transport route" function can work to supplement or replace shuttle function, but it currently stops as soon as its source is empty.
For me, this makes the function too annoying to use for colony management, and I instead only use transports for metal and polymer collection. I am sure many other players feel the same way.

It would be great if there was a switch to let transport routes continue even when the source is empty. This could be implemented with minimal effort if this was linked to the "automated function" button, so transport routes would continue infinitely as long as automated function is on.

I believe this could have big positive gameplay implications, in particular for filling a niche in transportation before shuttles are researched.
