Normally I don't like to make posts like "this and that sucks" and I'm going to try to make this as constructive as possible but seriously Ingame Store just plain sucks.

I made the mistake of buying Crusader Kings 2 from GamersGate (to support smaller companies nonetheless) so I had to buy all the DLC etc. from them too. Every single time I bought DLCs (and I bought all of them), I go in the game, click on the "Ingame Store" button, the game freezes and crashes to desktop. I finally buy the DLC after many many tries, I go in the game to download and activate it, it freezes. I seriously had to restart to game like at least 5-6 times before I was able to buy and install a DLC successfully.

Now before you say "it's your computer", I have zero problem with other game stores like Steam and GOG etc. I am guessing the problem lies in GamersGate's site but as a customer I don't care. You have an "Ingame Store" button in the game and I expect it to work. I'd rather buy the DLCs from Steam but at this point I don't wanna buy the game again.

I am in Central United States and maybe the people in Europe don't have this problem I don't know.

Now for the constructive part: I vividly remember a year ago or so the Paradox forums used to timeout "all the time" (and Paradox forums was the only website I had problems with). You upgraded your forums and now I don't have that problem anymore. I am suspecting GamersGate may have a similar problem and maybe they just need update their infrastructure. Please work with GamersGate and tell them that your customers are having problems and they should fix their service. If you have a button in your game that uses their service, it should work. Otherwise, take that button off the game.

Thanks.

One thing that might make it easier for you. You can buy it from gamersgate website without starting the game up then as long as you are logged on to the same account you can simply start the game and it should have the DLC listed as already purchased. Other than that I'm not sure what to say I've never had a problem and I live in the US too.

An improvement to your tone might get you help sooner. As the title makes it sound more a tantrum than a serious complaint or issue report so probably no one its aimed at will even read it.
But ive never had any problems with the ingame store, the only time its ever crashed was when i forgot to go on the internet too [as it crashes if youre offline as i ran through a tests to see if that was the problem.] so it could just be it the line was playing up or something like that.

To be honest, I've never had a probelm with GamersGate or the in-game store. Even yesterday when it seemed that everyone in the world was downloading the patch and various DLC at the same time, the in-game store worked perfectly. From what I read on here, much more people have a problem with Steam.

Without sounding rude, rather than rant about it on the general CKII forum, you may get a better response if you e-mail Paradox or make a post in the tech support forum. They've always been really helpful when I've had problems with games in the past, so you may want to give that a try.

Please work with GamersGate and tell them that your customers are having problems and they should fix their service.

Alternatively, you could contact GamersGate yourself and get your problem sorted in half the time. It's not the responsibility of Paradox to contact GamersGate on behalf of one customer who has a technical problem that no-one else seems to be having (as far as I'm aware). If this was a mass problem, I'm sure Paradox would act on it straight away, but it's not. Anyway, I hope you manage to get your game fixed.

I agree it isn't optimised. From time to time I will have a long loading time when entering the menu, and also a few crashes. However, it is usually when I have other things running that take up bandwidth, like videos in browsers loading and other stuff. So I suggest you to close any browsers and other bandwidth consuming programs, If you haven't already, before you start CK2. It helps for me at least.

You're absolutely right that it should work, and that "it's your computer" can't be the end of our "troubleshooting".
It is indeed quite possible that it IS a Gamersgate issue, but in that case it's still something that's not commonly triggered.

So let's see if we can narrow this down;

first things first - I'm assuming you're running this on a windows PC?

when you say "every single time" - how often are we talking about, and which version(s) of the game?
Anything special about your connection (e.g. VPN) or gamersgate account (e.g. registered in another country) that may have an effect?

---

I'm also attaching an .exe file with extra logging enabled, could you try opening the ingame store again with that, and if it crashes, upload the logs (found in [My Documents equivalent]\Paradox Interactive\Crusader Kings II\logs, unless you specified a user directory) here.

Thanks for the answer. I am running 1.07 (which I patched yesterday) on Windows but I had the same problem with earlier versions of the game. No VPN. GamersGate registered in US (I'm in Central US). Like I said, I never have problems with Steam or GOG but GamersGate site routinely times out for me when I visit it with my browser (I have to try it several times to even buy games from their website).

As for "every single time", I tried a total of 4 times last night.

1st try: I went in the game, clicked the Ingame Store button. The game froze a long time then crashed to desktop.
2nd try: Same thing.

After the 2nd try, I went to GamersGate website and bought all the DLC released yesterday. I launched the game and clicked the Ingame Store button to download and activate the DLC which worked this time. However, when I clicked on "install" one of the DLCs it said "downloading" and at the end of second step (all downloading finished) the game froze.

4th try: Exact same thing as 3rd try.

After that, I didn't try anymore out of frustration.

I'll try the modified EXE tonight and post my results.

Hi again. I copied CK2_RD.EXE to my game folder and started the game with that. I clicked on the Ingame Store button. The game sat there for like 2-3 minutes and then crashed to desktop.

Logs are attached.

Thanks.

Hi. Were you able to look at my log files and see what's wrong?

I updated to 1.07b today and it made no difference. I bought 5 DLCs ($11 something worth) and haven't been able to install single one of them successfully.

Have you contacted GamersGate? support@gamersgame.com

You might also try deleting your browser's cache and GG cookies.

The simple fact is that installing the dlcs in the wrong order shouldn't make your game not work (and if it does, it shouldn't be possible to), especially when they're listed alphabetically ingame and that isn't the correct order to install them.

I don't see any official install order lists anywhere either.

I'm currently screwing around attempting to install these and get them to work correctly right now, I had to download ck2 again because I realised that it's just too damn buggy otherwise.

I'm still happy I bought through GG and don't wanna use steam, but with some changes things could be a lot better. Like:
1. Change the order that the dlcs appear in, to an order that if you install them all from a fresh copy it'll actually work (dynasty shields pack 2 appears higher on the list than 1, and if you install 2 first it doesn't work... whose bright idea was this?)
2. Provide a copy of ck2 that automatically appears for anyone who has all the dlcs that has them all pre installed with the latest patch

Fortunately I can spend 3 hours screwing around with it till it works, however I'm sure for a lot of users they're not going to have quite as relaxed a reaction.

I wasn't aware that the OP's problem was caused by installing DLCs in the 'wrong' order ... where are you seeing that? It seems to me that his PC or connection has a problem with the GamersGate site in or out of the game. That's why I suggested the browser stuff.
