I've noticed this... CTD not long after you inherit a larger title in Ireland, particularly if you play someone that was released as a vassal...

I've tried game setups where I've released a character as a vassal, then saved, reloaded, and played as that character... I start getting CTD's soon as I achieve a higher title, such as Duke or King.

Mainland Ireland was changed to Salic Gavelkind in 1.03.
