Greetings. First post. Square one.

Researched this game heavily as I was looking for something w/ "historical verisimiltude" for the era. This seemed to fit the bill. Watched the YouTube tutorials. Mustered courage.

Bought both CK and DV from Gamer's Gate last night. Downloaded CK, installed CK. Dowloaded DV, installed DV in CK folder. Click on exe icon and have only CK as the graphics are so-so and no bride button, etc.

After I get this going, do I need further patches?

Gameplay Q: How do I get a bride once I (the King) start the game? I know it is terribly important.

Confession: n00b at both such installation issues and the gameplay. I tremble to think how lost I shall get once I can get the CK/DV a'going.

Your help is much appreciated.

Welcome to the forum

First I would suggest that you download and install DV again, since it looks like something went wrong with either the download or the installation. With the information you have given it is hard to tell. f.e. I have no idea what you mean with a 'bride button'.

Once you succesfully installed DV, you need to install the latest betapatch for DV which you can find here

You can find brides in your own court or in other courts, you can use the ledger for finding the best ones. If you want to marry someone from another court. Click on the shield of that county/duchy/kingdom and then select the option 'arrange marriage'.

If you click on this option, you will first get a list of all the people in your own court for who you can arrange a marriage. Click on your ruler then you will get a list of all the characters in the other court who are available for marriage.

Installing DV

Thank you for you quick response.

I am doing a total re-download and install of both as I tried to manually exchange DV folders for CK ones. Mistake.

I am still perplexed by the DV install and what sucessfull would look like. I am simply not sure to what folder it goes. Both times I've simply (followed the install wizard) and put it in the CK folder to no avail. Once I clicked on the CK.exe icon in the DV folder which began to give me a different opening screen (marching infantry instead of mounted king w/ sword raised) but got stuck. So I'm not sure what is amiss here. I shall try again.

Yes, the best bride ledger "button" I read somewhere was located between the + and the - on the mini map. Not true?

I appreciate the help.

BTW, I once found an novice/newbie AAR for Bohemia. I can't find it again and am desparate to learn the game w/out taking a slice of eternity to do so. Can you or another point me in the right direction to that one or another AAR that will function as a tutorial? EDIT: I found it: by CSK, Bohemia, a guide to sucess: http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?t=229413

There shouldn't be a separate DV-folder, DV should be installed in the Crusader Kings folder. Which normally is here

C:\Program files\Paradox Interactive\Crusader Kings

"YOUR CRUSADER KINGS FOLDER" folder...

...was the problem. Removing those all caps words during the install did the trick and got me to the correct DV launch.

Now that the easy part is over, the hard shall begin. Even after reading Herr CSK's newbie AAR, I am still not sure if I can grasp this game w/out further tutorial. I quake in my boots.

Thanks again for the help. :)
