same problem, no results

Help! I've had Victoria for five days now and I cannot install it. I've tried EVERY suggestion in the various "install problem" threads and nothing is working. When I attempt to copy the disk to my hard drive my whole system locks up. When I try Setup.exe there is no response, except for once when I received a "Setup.exe is not a valid windows32 program" (or words to that effect.) I also tried reinstalling EU2, which I've had for over a year with no problems, and there's no response.
The CD ROM is Liteon LTN485s. The CD itself is from the same batch as an earlier poster who resolved the problem, and does not appear to be damaged. There are no other system conflicts (ie no background programs running, AutoRun and DMA disabled, etc.) As I said, I tried everything in the threads regarding this problem a few times with no luck. Any suggestions? Or am I just out of luck? Thanks for your attention.

In the future please start a new thread.

I need to know what publisher version you have?
Their Name and logo should be on the CD.

Sorry, I wasn't sure if it should be a new thread or not.
The publisher is Strategy First. I did contact them and followed their advice (which is primarily the advice listed in this thread.) I didn't include any system information, because I understood this to be primarily a conflict with copyright protection and certain Cd Rom drives. (OS is Windows ME on HPPAV 7850 if that matters in this instance.) The CD ROM is Liteon LTN 485s. Thanks Castellon.

From a fresh boot of your system, what happens when you try and copy one file from the CD to the HD? Just one file pick a small one.

Okay sounds like you still have your virus protection turned on.
You need to turn this off then try a normal install or failing that the copy to HD and install method.

Are you sure you have nothing else running because it was other programs running that caused the problem for everyone else.

Can you tell me what it says is running when you hit Ctrl-Alt-Del.

Have you looked for an updated driver for your CD drive?

Yikes. After a couple hours of searching to no avail, I began to stumble across these quotes regarding my CD ROM: "no firmware updates" and "no reprogrammable ROM chip", making the CD ROM sound suspiciously like its in a permanent "as-is" state. There's no listing for a driver for this model anywhere, only a lot of old, unanswered pleas from others who were once looking for it.

So.... if that's the case, and the CD ROM is the problem, then its going to be permanently incompatible with the disk. Looks like Victoria's going to end up costing more than $40.

Thanks for your help Castellon. I appreciate it.

Contact Strategy First again and see if they can offer any more assistance.
