Have tried everything that I have read in the forums... all to no avail.!

I cant install and keep getting this message..

COMPONENT TRANSFER ERROR
Component Core Files
File Group Common
File D:\data2.cab
Error Data Error (cyclic redundancy check)

Now the only thing I have not done is installed SP2 on my XP Windows laptop, because in the past I had other issues when I updated my Windows OS. So I am not too keen to update now.... is this the reason for this error appearing? Can I try something else, otherwise I fear I will not be able to play a game that reads really well and that I have been dying to play since I found out it existed.... and searched hard to find a copy.

Please help...

Well its definetly NOT a pirate... I can assure you of that. There is a scratch on the disc but I have seen worse and those worked, so not sure about that.

As for drivers, yep made sure mine are the latest by checking with Dell.co.uk and windows update internet service.

Tried the installshield downloaded it and installed, but it made no difference.

I fear that this means the disc is damaged in some way.... which is a real pain as this game is not easy to find anymore and where I purchased it from was the last one they had..!!

I take it you dont think installing SP2 will help me then?

Is it possible to get data2.cab sent to me..?? Thats the one that's giving me the problem, even when I try to copy the disc to my harddrive?

Who is the publisher?

Since Paradox does not write the installer program for that version, you would need to contact Koch Media. THey may replace your CD for you.

Have you tried to copy the whole CD to the HD and install from there.

yep tried to copy whole cd to HD and it also fals over when it gets to data2.cab..??

I want to play this game so much.. that I have decided to download and install SP2 for XP.... fingers crossed this will work.! Otherwise I shall try Koch Media, as it must be a faulty disc.?

Thanks for you help so far.

No I think you have a bad disk and should try and exchamge it either where you bought it or with Koch Media the publisher. You may want to see what happens if you try to install it on another system, maybe a friend will let you try. That way you will know for sure if you have a bad disk as I suspect.

HOI 2 should be fine.
