Install problems

Just bought the game from Gamestop and downloaded using their app. The game then installs using steam. When the game has finished installing the desktop icon has no picture. When I launch the game I get a black screen with an hour glass, the game music plays. After a while the hour glass changes to a pointing finger. But the rest of the screen stays black. When I go to uninstall it there are two CK2 files one which is 698 MB and another which is 924 MB. Is it installing twice perhaps?

I checked the minimum requirements before purchase and that shouldn't be a problem.

Well, the installation process is entirely handled by Steam, Paradox have nothing to do with it. That said, 90% or more of users here are Steam and no-one's reported problems with their Steam installer.

Reading your symptoms, the only indications of an installer fault (rather than game or system problems) are the desktop icon having no picture and the "two CK2 files". Perhaps you can clarify what you mean by those two files; in the Steam/steamapps/common/ckii directory you should see the launcher ck2game.exe at about 26kb and the actual game ck2.exe at about 9.5mb. Perhaps you are talking about temporary install files that Steam has copied down? What are the exact file names and locations?

As a start, use the Steam client option to verify the local game cache files. If that doesn't help your problem, please post a dxdiag.txt (you can delete everything after the "Sound devices" section for brevity), settings.txt, system.log and error.log files (you'll need to rename the .log files to .txt to upload). Also open setup.log, search for "checksum", and paste that line only in here.
