I'll keep looking....

However, verbal is right, and it's going to be hard to convince the Korean OS that the é is not the first half of a Korean character. Regional settings in Control Panel won't help because this is not a dialog display in an application - this is the OS attempting to read a filename, and it will never use code page conversions to do so because it was never meant to be used that way.

Does the error that comes up give you the option to Ignore and therefore to continue the installation of files? If you could do that maybe you could still play.... but I wouldn't try to play France since it would probably crash trying to load the André Marty.bmp file...

Just a very quick question on this issue. Who is selling the game in Korea and China/Hong Kong?

Patric

my ordering not yet arrived.
Anyway, i just expect that i got their problem. Cuz Korean windows is similar to Chinese windows

The simple solution - although not one that can be implemented immediately - would be for the next patch to be adjusted to remove the special character from the file name...I doubt there would be any outcry against the bitmap being called andre martin.bmp instead.

Johan: Just wondering...when/how is that bmp called? Another possible fix would be to rename the file to andre.bmp and then edit the appropriate files that call it to reflect the new filename. Of courses this only works if the calls aren't hardcoded.

I wonder if it is possible to install the game from the hard disk? Copy all the files to a temp directory on your hard drive.
Find the file C:\Program Files\Paradox Entertainment\Hearts of Irons\GFX\Interface\pics\Andr?Marty.bmp and rename it to [...] Andre Marty.bmp.
Install from the HDD, while keeping your CD-ROM in the drive.

maybe it will work...
I have had problems with accents in the past. Even english windows has trouble with accents

It's possible it will give you an error message when you try to rename it though... hopefully it will work... *cross fingers*

well it would give you error message.
But I guess rename is with Winfile would be okay
cuz I used to do that when installing Japanese games in Chinese Windows

We don't have trouble with it. We're just respecting your right to a distinct society with your own Windows problems. ;) :D

Ok I did some research and it doesn't look like there is a way to change the language the OS version supports for files. This means that you will not be able to install this on Korean or Chinese windows with the CD that you have.

The only way this may be possible is if the game files are stored uncompressed on the CDROM drive. You could then copy all the ones without the special characters and you may be alright. I don't have my HOI CD handy right now, but I will check how they are stored when I get home. Typically though they are compressed into some sort of archive file.

as your problem seems to be unsolvable, try to contact Strategy First technical support and provide them with a link to this thread explaing that you can't even install the game.

if they are aware of a fix we don't know, they will help you, or ultimately, you can ask them for a refund.

of you could install another version of Windows and try to dual boot, english windows for games and korean windows for everything else.

The only thing is he never said what version(publisher) of the game he has?

Well I suggest dual-boot in solving this problem.

Get a Japanese Windows (Cuz you can use it to play Japanese games:D ), install HOI through Japanese windows, launch it in Korean or Chinese or whatever version that you can't install HOI. And it works.:D

Thanks for the update Patric. Good to know.

Thanks for letting us know.

it can be solved

you don't need to install from hard disk, just change regional setting to japanese, then your system will ask you to restart the computer. after that, you can install hoi without any problem.
believe me, i just done that.
after the complete installation, you can change the setting back to whatever you were using.:D

Thanks for clearing that up.
