whenever I try to launch the game either through the Desktop Shortcut or Steam Library (the option Play Prison Architect) I get this error message.
The only way I'm able to play it is in legacy Mode, but that doesn't allow me to connect to my PDX account, therefor denying me access to the Guard Pavilons (and what else that I'm unable to access)

HELP pls

Hmmm, that's not good. Please try this:

- exit the Steam app entirely
- uninstall Paradox Launcher v2 from the Windows "Apps and features" utility, if still present.

Delete the following folders if still present:

- C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/
- C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/
- C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Roaming/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/
To see the AppData folder you'll need to enable View Hidden Items in File Explorer.

- run steam.exe as the Windows Admin user

- run the game from the PLAY button in Steam

IF that doesn't help, in this folder are some .log files:
C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/
Please attach them here.

The only file present in that folder is called launcher-dowser, which contains this info:

2020-06-13 12:09:17 [v:2019.10.1] [main] [INFO] The `launcherpath` file does not exists:
C:\Users\paul_\AppData\Local\Paradox Interactive\launcherpath

Having uninstalled and re-installed Prison Architect didn't fix it.

Turns out that ever since Paradox got involved I've been having this issue (then again, I haven't played it since 2018. only started again when the Psychward DLC was released)

Let's try forcing an update of the launcher.

Download the installer package for Windows: https://forumcontent.paradoxplaza.com/emailsignatures/2020.7-win-prod.zip

Unpack the file you just downloaded and place the three files in the Steam folder for the game you're having issues with. If asked if you want to replace already existing files click "yes" - that's a sign you are in the right place!

Then please repeat the launcher reinstall procedure from before.

Good luck with that!

Once again, it didn't work, but I tried installing on my laptop, and there it does work by default.
So it MUST be something on my PC that prevents this from happening

Looking at the steps posted above of what I need to uninstal / delete:

- uninstall Paradox Launcher v2 from the Windows "Apps and features" utility, if still present.
This doesn't even exist on my pc (despite having PA installed)

1- C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/
2- C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/
3- C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Roaming/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/

1: Does not exist. Doesn't go further than Local/Programs/Common (which is empty. Common is the only subfolder in the Programs folder)

2: Does exist. Contains the Launcher-Dowser textfile, now containing (see attachment)

3: Does not exist

downloading and extracting / replacing the file you gave me, doesn't do anything either

Yes, something on a few Windows installations triggers this
2020-06-14 15:59:23 [v:2019.10.1] [main] [CRITICAL] Failed to install Paradox Launcher:
exit status 1619
1619: “This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package.”

Which is bogus, of course the .msi we distribute is valid. I have not yet been able to pin down what on Windows could possibly cause that.

Let's set you up to run the game direct from Steam, no launcher.

- Download the attached pa.txt file
- rename it to pa.bat
- Place the .bat file in your game's install folder (In the same place as your Prison Architect64.exe)
- Right click the game in your Steam library
- Go to properties
- Select Set Launch Options
- Copy and Paste pa.bat %command% into the input box
- Select Ok
- Run the game

All the best!
