Problem with CD

I recently had to manually remove HOI2 from my computer in order to do a clean install. However, when I put in the CD nothing happens. When I open My Computer and double-click on the CD-ROM drive I get:

"demo32.exe - Entry point not found. The procedure entry point ow could not be located in the dynamic link library GDI32.dll."

I can open the disk and manually double-click the Setup file. However when I do that I receive the "tell Microsoft about this problem" box with the message:

"InstallShield Setup Launcher has encountered a problem and needs to close."

Any idea why my CD no longer seems to work?

This is an odd one. The demo32.exe is the install shield program that produces the initial screen to install/uninstall the game. It doesn't do anything out of the ordinary.

That said, a missing (function) entry in gdi32.exe is serious. It means that your Windows installation has been corrupted in some way. Gdi32 is one of the core Windows components that provides the basic services to interact with the display driver, keyboard driver, mouse driver, and contains (amongst others) the basic drawing routine library of Windows.

Have you done a full virus and spyware scan? What version of Windows are you using, and what are your system's specs?

Well, you could try to boot off your Windows XP home installation CD. When it comes up with the boot menu, one of the options should be "repair windows" or phrased similar.

Choose it, and let it work it's way through your Windows setup. This function will check all key Windows files against original ones on the setup, and restore if mismatches are found.

After that, reboot and try the installer again.

Thanks. After looking through all my CD's it appears I was never given an XP disc. Kinda strange. However, I was able to do a system restore to some time back in April when I know nothing was wrong with my system and that seems to have done the trick. Re-installed HOI2 with no problems. Hopefully it's nothing in the program itself but some virus that managed to slip in. Thanks again for your help.
