Installed Core and my Windows 2k Install is currupted...

Hey,

I've recently formatted my machine (2-3 weeks ago) - so I didn't start today with HOI2 installed,

20 mins ago I downloaded the 1.3a patch, the CORE installer from MateDow's post, then installed HOI2, the 1.3a patch, and then Core. (all to suggested directories)

Upon finishing the Core install, Immediatly a lot of errors began being thrown, regarding being unable to access certain directories or files, Core loaded, then crashed when I tried to start the scenario. (Had a lot of graphical glitches, the mouse cursor was wrong, etc)

Upon crashing, I could not access many directories on my harddrive.

I decided to reboot, Win2k will not restart, saying:

Windows 2000 could not start, missing or currupted \WINNT\system32\c_1252.nls

I'm gonna go back to my main pc and try repairing from the 2k install cd - thought I should post a warning, there may be something wrong with the installer!

Same here. Are you using the home edition or the work professional edition?

I'm using professional, with SP4 from memory.

Good to hear it's working for others fine, hopefully it's just my machine then.

It's definatly not hardware related outside the HD itself since the harddrive was unreadable even after I transferred it to my GF's pc.

Now scandisk has run through and deleted hundreds of orphaned files and index's, it's at least accessable again, though there are quite a few directories and files now missing. (about 30% of my data at first glance...)

I'll backup what I can for the moment while it's working, and then see about re-installing windows.

Could just be my harddrive is starting to die I suppose, I just wanted to post the warning in case I was not unique!

I'm using professional, with SP4 from memory.

Same system here, encountered no abnormal problems. Sounds like a virus infection.

Hmmmm, I doubt very much it was a virus,

Hoi2 1.3a, Core, and the latest CK beta are the only things I have downloaded in the past 7 days, and apart from that my system is a clean re-format from about 3 weeks ago. Most of the software apart from the latest Paradox games and mods I have are the same installs I've been using for the last year!

and all I access is Comics, Emails, and the Hoi2 & Core forums.... so....

Ah, mabye it's just a dodgy hard drive which happened to pick This exact moment do die

I'm just re-installing windows again now, hopefully I can be up and playing Core in 2-4 hours - I'll post how it goes!

Well, whatever it was, after a complete hard drive format and a re-install of windows, Core installed fine and is running. (Yay!)

Still don't know what caused it, but hey. I'll think on that later.
