I have been playing HoI2 for several months and had very few problems with my computer, at least that were game related. I downloaded 1.1 and 1.2 (didn't realize I only needed 1.2) and saved everything into the files automatically suggested by the process. So, supposedly, all the files are loaded onto my hard drive. Is there something I have to do to enable the patches to work? I have started several new scenarios and have not seen any differences. My computer is an HP Pavilion XE 783 with 128 mb Ram running Windows ME. It is about five years old and I have been experiencing some other problems with the machine, but it doesn't seem like this problem would have anything to do withj that. Any help appreciated.

You need to install the patch, just like you installed the game.

Find where you saved the 1.2 Patch, and then double click on it, this will run it and have it update the game files to 1.2.

You are very light on memory, to be honest I am suprised you can even run the game, you may find performance drops after installing the patch since it adds more stuff.

Thanks. Yes, I was also surprised my computer runs the game so well. I have never tried multi-player, though.

Glad to help.

If you plan to MP with your current configuration, make sure you squeeze the most out of the RAM available. That, if anything, is where you can expect delays. There is a FAQ in the victoria tech forum with an explanation as to how and why.

Also, don't let the host (you should not attempt to host a game with your system in it's current state) set the game speed to anything beyond normal speed. Preferrably, let it set one or two nodges below normal speed.

That said, you will notice a huge improvement in performance by installing even as little as an additional 128 MB ;)

Thanks again. I don't think I'll try MP until/unless I upgrade RAM or maybe get a new computer. I got the patch to work now, and it seems to be going flawlessly. HoI2, I must say, is the first game I have ever played on which my computer experiences fewer tech problems than during "normal" computing. Amazing. Kudos to those who designed it. I hate it when all those other games just crash or lock up for no reason. My computer does that anyway if I just leave it on for several hours. But not usually if I leave HoI2 running paused. If anything, the machine runs more smoothly with the patch installed than it did before. I'm very pleased with the results. Thanks again for your help.

You are truely loved by the computer Gods. ;)
