Hello Guys

when i start EU4 or Imperator Rome, while I got an internet connection, both games crash before the loading screen. The launcher opens, but when I hit play, the icons in the taskbar appear for like a second or two and then they disappear. When the normal game icon disappears, also the launcher shuts down. Imperator Rome has a fail report every second time.
I tried to reinstall both games, I got no mods, I tried all types of screen settings (fullscreen, borderless fullscreen and windowed)

I hope you can help me

The issues with the two games may or may not be related, of course.

Did both games used to work on this computer? If so did they both fail at the same point?

Add Imperator.exe and EU4.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add them to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.

If that does not help, DXDIAG is a program you run from a command prompt or the Windows start menu 'run' dialog box (or 'search programs' in Windows 7 or later). After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach your Documents/Paradox/Imperator/pdx_settings.txt.
From your Documents/Paradox/Imperator/logs/ folder, attach system.log .

Please attach your Documents/Paradox/EU4/settings.txt.
From your Documents/Paradox/EU4/logs/ folder, attach system.log .

I'm having the same issue.

Imperator crashes after a few clicks since Cicero update. Already reinstalled the game and verified the local files
Please make your own new thread, and include there full problem history and system details, thanks.

Yes both games used to work on this computer. Both failed the week I posted this thread, so yeah I would say the same point.

Already added them to this but it still does not work.

I attached all the documents. Thank you in advance

I don't see imperator.exe mentioned in that dxdiag but the error eu4.exe gets there is typical of an antivirus app getting in the way. What is your antivirus app please?

May as well update that video driver:
https://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

If you exit the Steam app entirely and run eu4.exe and imperator.exe by themselves do you see any error or message that way, when they fail?

I am using the Avast antivirus app.

Oh thanks, is updated now.

No still the same. He tries to start it, the icon appears for a second and then it disappears again.

Avast is the most troublesome AV app for our games, for some reason. I'll almost bet that is the problem. Can you contact them please and make sure it is set to allow both games to run fully, and to write to wherever they want to? The Windows System areas like the USer Documents folder in particular.

You could try removing it entirely; after an uninstall use the free revo Uninstaller utility to remove any remnants.

Then make sure Windows Defender is enabled; in particular put imperator.exe (plus eu4.exe , ck2game.exe and stellaris.exe) in its Apps Allowed Through list.

If that works better you could then reinstall Avast.

That problem only affects Unity games like BattleTech and Cities Skylines. No PDS game is known to be affected by Citrix.

Do CK2 and Stellaris run okay?

Opt into the CK2 64bit version, in the Steam Betas tab for that game. Does it now have a problem too?

install and run the free utility Speccy. Send its output to a text file and attach that here please.

I see you are running several MSI utilities. Please try unloading them all. It's most likely their Gaming app but afterburner has also caused problems like this.

I don't know what would stop IR, Stellaris and EU4 from running but not affect CK2. Clearly something different about this computer!

I'm actually surprised the MSI gaming app didn't help, that is know to affect EU4 at least (although also CK2).

Let me have look at new copies of these files please:

- dxdiag
- speccy
- EU4 settings.txt
- All files in the eu4/logs/ folder over 0 bytes.

Oh, and please try this with all those games: In your Steam Library right-click on this game and choose Properties. Click on Set Launch Options, and paste this in there:
-opengl

Any different?
