I started a game playing as Timeon Dayne of the Torrentine at the Blackfyre Rebellion start-date. I assumed I would be able to choose my side and not be forced to submit to whatever choice my liege has made, however this is not the case. In other times I have found I have been given the choice to join with a different side than my liege's but it seems arbitrary and not properly defined when the choice is given. Playing as Wyman Manderly at the A Feast for Crows start-date I have sometimes been given the choice to join Stannis and sometimes not, seemingly completely at random, which is bewildering. I would prefer if in the next version vassals were given more choice in who they place their allegiance with and not just forced to go along with their liege, or at least it made more clear exactly when it is allowed for a vassal to join a different side and when it isn't. It definitely doesn't fit with the lore that vassals to vassals of the King can't side with the Blackfyres instead of the Targaryens considering many did. Oddly enough, if I, using the console, make myself independent as Timeon Dayne I am able to join the Targaryen side again but not the Blackfyre. Presumably this is due to Targaryen being my de jure liege but even if I give my duchy to Blackfyre and make myself independent again I still can't choose to side with him.

To do it you just right click on Daemon (or whoever the enemy war leader is) and the option "choose civil war sides" will be there.

The reason it's not available for your situation is because Dorne is not part of the Iron Throne yet in this bookmark. Dorne is an outside kingdom supporting Daeron, so it's not your civil war to choose sides on.

Dorne becomes a vassal of the Iron Throne on the 1st of January 8195, the Blackfyre Rebellion starting on the 7th of March 8195. Plus there is already one vassal of Dorne who has rebelled and is supporting the Blackfyres, the Yronwoods.

Indeed you are correct with dating.
Testing right now and a vassal of any of the other Westeorsi kingdoms has the option to choose sides by right clicking the enemy leader. It's only the Dornish that don't have it. The Mega War system isn't really my thing but without delving too much into the code the fact that it is only the Dornish would suggest that whatever is causing it is probably WAD.
The Yronwoods are specifically scripted to be on the rebels side.

Perhaps Dorne is scripted to support the Crown in that war? Other than that, I've noticed that if you decide to support the IT in a megawar as a LP and they have another megawar within a year, it seems you're forced to support them in that war as well. The only other oddity I've come across was one time when the kingdom of the Crownlands was granted to a vassal and a megawar was triggered. It seems that if there's somehow a LP of the Crownlands, they're completely unable to take sides in megawars at all, but you typically need to intentionally move it in that direction for there to even be a LP of the Crownlands.
