When playing the Norseman cometh I got some idea. How about a game one person (the GM i.e. me) plays a Count/Duke/King and the others choose to play any person in his court. They try to convince him to believe them and so get power over him and his lands. This all will lead to an AAR. Only the ruler writes in the AAR itself except others tell official things, so all can read the AAR itself. Of course the ruler won't tell everything he knows either.

The rest will be done via PMs, which you keep in character, and which not will be made official. Of course a person can choose who he trusts and who not, as well as who he considers as friend. Keep all your PMs saved on your PC, as the courtiers later on will tell their point of view in the story as well. But be sure your PM box isn't full, so PMs don't get lost. Of course you can do this via Email as well, but not ICQ or others, as the messages later on will be required and should be kept.

If you're interested in this sign up here and tell me in which land should be played.

The game itself will be played by me with 1.05 and Veld's Alternative Culture, Kingdom and Duchy Mod. I will post regular (you can choose how often) an update to the AAR with "events" happening. Of course I will not have such events as those that interact with a courtier, as those will of course be played by a person.

That's it. Sign up if you are interested in it.

I just read it through for the 5th time and call me stupid, but I still can't decipher exactly what the game is about.

Ok, maybe I should edit it again. So, basically one player is playing the game itself. He (that's me first time but could change soon) is the ruler of any country we choose to be.

The others play courtiers in his court. They try to convince him of anything (this could be to give them more money, attack heathens, grant them land etc.). They do that via PMs. Of course they also talk to each other. The ruler is telling his story, while the others don't until the game ends (which might be whenever we choose it to).

Basically with everything you do you try to get some strength within the realm and get your own family stronger than the others.

I hope I made it clear now (though I think I confuse myself right now. )

I think it would be far more funny to just play regular MP then with one person as the HRE or Byzantine emperor and other people as counts in the empire vying for power.

I havent had any problems with CK MP but then again i only played it in lan parties.

I like your idea CSK, I think it is fine as it is. I may sign up, but I will have to think about whether or not I have to time to.

As for the country, England imeadiatly comes to my mind. It has plenty of courtiers that perspective writARRs could choose from the start.

Tentatively sign me up.

Why doesn't anyone here wants Bohemia? Good starting position, good king, several family members, courtiers, etc... It does provide a nice challenge, especially with KoG and Poland nearby.

Hello, you guys prolly don't know me, but I spend all my time over at the Baroque RPG. However, I was going through some of the pages, when I stumbled upon this, and I find it quite interesting. I have done something along these lines before, except with a Geo-Political Simulator game, were we all played Parliament members, and dictated a foreign and domestic policy to the player. I am interested, and as long as there is enough interest, I would love to tag along for the ride.

Thanks
~Hawk

Ok, so far we have one vote for England and one (two) for Bohemia. Good somebody else like's the idea, and great you jumped along East_Emnet, I love your style of writing.

Hawkeye, have you any choice in a country?

I would interested in also playing along, but I cannot participate until 30 September - can I sit out until then? And how do we determine which courtier we are?

My vote goes for the Kingdom of Castille to be played. Lots of action... plenty of Moors to go after... the Iberian peninsula to liberate... El Cid to unleash :) . Also, the Kingdom of Leon could be interesting as we grapple with the decision whether to unite the Jiminez family holdings by assassination.

The problem is, that you can not give money to the courtier. Second, you can not marry them except if they have same family name or marry you relative. Third, you see their attributes perfectly therefore nobody can convince you to give Spy Master post if they have 0 attribute or somebody else has much higher.

So sooner or later you will have to give them land or, I am afraid it will become burring as CK is not suited for courtiers game.

Besides how do you imagine it technically? Would you do this by turns, lets say 20 years ets?

I'm interested in this idea, but like everyone it seems, confused about the actually layout, especially with the limitations of CK.

Count me in though if this actually gets going.

I think that it will work perfectly fine. Since this will probably be a narritive you can say that certain courteirs were "given money" or "are married" when in fact in the game they are not just for the purpose of the story (if it makes sence). What he could do is, for instance, not assign Steward or Spy master positions Immediately, waiting for those "I should be _____" events to pop up.

Well, if people are good and loyal enough, and it makes sence for what happened in the story preiviously, the king may grant them land. It is as simple as that. That writer then would write for another courtier.

How I guess it could work is that CSK (or whoever ends up playing the acctuall game) plays for a set amount of time, taking notes, taking screenshots, noteing esspecially what the courtiers were doing at the time, etc. Then all of the info could be PMed to all of the Writers who put their heads together, pick courteirs, and write. I am guessing that is what CSK had in mind.

I think it could be done.
