Would you believe me if I said that that would actually be boring compared to a more "standard" steampunk Europe?
Yes.

Usually there are steampunk Guatemalans who invade Mega-Australia.

Yes, players will be influential people within the British Empire.
((Your telling me that Steampunk French supported mexican Empire is on the table competing with CSA, USA, and California for influence in North America, and I'm stuck with the British? Put me in Belize, at least.))
You could always try to get yourself appointed governor of British Honduras (no such place as Belize yet)

The right honorable Oxfordroyale has suggested the name for the game, which shall be Cogs in the Machine. Because that's what we all are, Cogs in the glorious engine that is the Empire.

Accordingly I have started an irc channel, #CogsintheMachine Please join me!

I'm feeling confident about the setting now. Start year shall be 1870, 5 years after the end of the American War, and 20 years after the Wars of Unification. Napoleon III rules France, which stares across their border at the Empire of the Germans, founded in the idealism of 1848. Queen-Empress Victoria's loyal subjects are both competing with these upstart Empires and trying to keep them from obliterating Europe in a frenzy of mutual destruction. Meanwhile mechanization means London is crowded full of unemployed, unruly surplus population. Killer fogs sometimes accumulate in low lying areas. "The sun never sets on the British Empire, but it never shines on London" the saying goes.

Tappscott and iisbroke both expressed interest in helping gm, so I thought I'd express what I think I need to them and any other potential volunteers.

There are two things I need. One is someone familiar with the grinding of numbers and management of stats. I'm going to try to make myself finally learn to apply spreadsheets and shared documents so that this doesn't depend on me sitting my ass down and calculating everything by hand.

Number 2 is probably more important. I have ADHD and bipolar disorder. The upside is this causes my brain to generate unusual ideas like this, but the downside is that I tend to be a bit erratic. So I need a colleague who is able to tag in if I suddenly hit the neurological doldrums and keep things moving.

My hope is to have things ready for a 'turn 0' in the next few days. This would mean having the necessary lore written up and outline of rules, so that people can post up characters and start rping if they wish. I've got most of the tech-related lore done, which leaves a primer on socio-political-economic life in the Empire (should be fairly straightforward since I'm basically copying real life) and geopolitical summary (more time consuming but less critical for turn 0, since it involves mostly mere foreigners).

I got this and tapscott should still help out as well even if I am. Three heads are better than one. Also pm me what you want out of stats and please be detailed so it is something you'll like also.

Welp, I hate spreadsheets as well and am bi-polar to, so it looks like we have a bit in common! :p

Since I'm not strong on the mathmatical side of things, dunno if you still need me. Perhaps as Broke says three heads are better than two, so if you feel that I could still be of some use just drop me a PM and we can go from there.

Don't worry too much about spreadsheet tappscott I can handle that as I'm sure you've seen with my Landfallen 2 spreadsheets. Also with three GMs we could just purposefully contradict each other to confuse players, and yes I am the type of GM that gets a kick out of watching his players rage. Why? Because I'm eeeevvviillllll HEHEHEHEHEHEH.

Edit:
It also allows me to work on a genre I haven't considered before. Remember Landfallen series is High Fantasy, and Deicide well.... not sure how much more fantasy you can get with playing as gods.

Spite is the noblest and purist motivation in human endeavors. It is known.

I really appreciate the support. The spreadsheets should be simple really, just two stats, a start value for each, a change per turn, a final value and a note field to keep track of modifiers. Something that shouldn't take the glorious 8 ton logic engine at Cambridge more than an hour to calculate.

Well I mean I need to know what the modifiers and start value are so I can make them XD

Its good all you need is a simple SUM formula for it all though.

Well, the variety of possible modifiers is going to be huge, since they will depend on the character advantages and disadvantages. So there might be a character who's lack of business sense means he gets 1/3rd less wealth from businesses, but doesn't impact the money he might get by marrying an heiress.

Best way might be to create character sheets to keep track of posessions, positions and modifiers, and a master sheet to calculate turn results. Inputs on the master sheet might be:

Net influence from posessions, net influence from positions, the same for wealth, expenditures for both.
