I've recently been reading a lot of alternate history and stumbled across Countries of an Alternate World. In this, people post their fictitious countries with backgrounds, governments, ideologies, cultures, religions, geographical locations, and the such, and people, either those who post their country download, edit, and reupload it, or one 'moderator', periodically update the world map to show the made-up countries. The goal is to end up with a completely filled map of a present day alternate world that contains some logic and lots of history.

Would anyone be interested in doing something like this?

Note, I'm not sure if it has already been done in this forum before. Sorry if this is a done to death activity.

EDIT: I've done a little more searching and, I don't know why this didn't show up before, I see there have been games just like this (named literally the exact same thing). But the most recent one seems to be some time ago.

Would anyone be interested in doing ANOTHER one?

Sure!

Would the Holy Kingdom of Rome work?

I'd be down. Cymru am byth!

So we keep coming up with different countries, as opposed to playing one through the ages, no? That's an interesting notion, so I'm in.

What's the start year IE what is the year this game takes place? Because here is my idea:

The Holy Kingdom of Rome

After the fall of the Roman Empire, Barbarians overran the Empire for a period of 50 years. However, a unlanded Christain Roman Noble, Antonius Brutus, managed to gather an army and take e city of Rome. The first thing he did was establish defenses around the city, making it the most protected area in the region. He reestablished order, and proclaimed himself "Rex Romani", or King of the Romans. He purposely kept his realm small, only the city and the immediate surrounding area. He died, and his son took over, expanding his realm. His son however was cautious, taking care not to anger the Byzantines or get barbarian hordes knocking at his door.

Yeah, don't want to tample on other peoples ideas, but here are some further things about it:

At game start, controls at least central Italy, also holding Venice. Its language is Latin, and the Brutus dynasty is still on the throne. If Byzantium lost control of Naples-Sicily area, then it should include that too. Really depends on what else happens.

I wasn't sure about 'playing' as a country. I was more thinking of creating an alternate world with many different countries, each person contributing 1 or more. Each country would have its own history that can intermingle with other countries' histories. The date would be present day but history would go back as far as the creator of the country wishes, as long as it is reasonable.

Ok. I would like to then create the Holy Kingdom of Rome and make other countries in Italy and Greece and Asia Minor.

Ideas so far:

-Kingdom of Rome
-Republic of Trent(Northern Italy)
-People's Republic of Corsica and Sardinia- communist regime
-Byzantine Empire, survived, controls Constantinople, southern Bulgaria to Thessilonica and a bit Northwest of Asia Minor, to around Nicea
-Athens- democracy, controls Achea
-Kingdom of Sparta- controls Peloponnese
-Republic of Thessalia- controls Northern Greece
-Kingdom of Armenia- controls much of Eastern Asia Minor.
-Empire of Antioch- controls Antioch, Cyprus and Cicilia
-Democratic Nation of Ephesus- controls western coast of Asia Minor.
-United Federation of Asia Minor- buch of small little countries comprising the rest of Asia Minor. Capital is Iconium.

If allowed, I would like to write a history for all of these and flesh them out.

Ones I've thought of something far:
-An insufferable sustainable lefty Community of Cascadia! No fossil fuels allowed, all food is organic and local, and the cities are infested with spotted owls.

- Hawaiian Hegemony. A pan-pacific Empire Under the Kamehameha dynasty. Their luxury passenger airships surf the jetstream across the ocean.

-Obviously a High Kingdom of Ireland, under the wise and noble O'Dea clan. A modern society run on Brehon law

-St Brendansland, a former colony of the above in North America.

I'm thinking a small state somewhere in east asia. While a struggling communist dystopia today, they have a proud history of forming a far fetching empire in ancient times, with some sort of zen order of martial artist monks reigned supreme. Today they suck, though.

Saadi Dynasty, still holding control of most of Spain.

Saadi Dynasty, still holding control of most of Spain.

At least use some Andalusi dinasty, like the Nasrid...

A Nasrid Kingdom of Granada ruling most Spain sound cool!

And not, I am not living in Granada right now, why do you ask... XD

I had these ideas in mind:

People's Republic of Japan: A Soviet-backed coup d'etat occurs in Japan just weeks before their surrender to the United States, causing the country to fall directly under Soviet control. The country eventually splits from the Soviets over conflicting ideals in the early 1960s and becomes extremely isolationist. The country is able to survive to the modern day, and is considered by many to be a semi-socialist democracy rather than a complete Marxist-Leninist state.

United Commonwealth of Britain: The Cromwell family is able to keep the Commonwealth alive and stable, but the family later loses control of the nation during a coup d'etat in 1868, which establishes an actual democracy. The nation quickly becomes a capitalist paradise and allies with NATO, the UN, and the EU early on.

United States of America: The USA is radically different. Instead of being a symbol of democracy and fair representation, George Washington uses his influential position as Commander-in-Chief of the Army to overthrow the provisional government shortly after the Revolutionary War ends, and establishes himself as President-for-Life in 1786. The goverment quickly reverts back to a democracy after his death in 1799, but the federal government is easily manipulated by the Presidents from then on. Finally, in 1927, President Edward Garrett of the far-right Democratic Party establishes himself as President-for-Life and the Garrett family serves as Presidents-for-Life of the country up to nowadays.
